This week I’d like to make a shout out to the underdogs. They come in all different shapes and sizes and may be spotted on a court, on a stage or in a classroom. The underdog story is one the public loves. We can’t get enough of the dude that used to live in his car, found a guitar in the dumpster and is now rocking a world tour. The underdog inspires us and makes it seem like anything is possible. With the advent of reality TV, America’s underdogs have come out of woodwork in droves. That being said let’s start off with my absolute favorite new obsession, NBC’s The Voice. I love the judges – Christina Aguilera (personally nicknamed Xtina – with a tacky, silver ring covering four fingers to prove it), smooth country singer Blake Shelton, red-sequent-pant-suit-studded, awkward-white-cat-petting Cee-Lo, and OF COURSE the sexy slice of heaven that is Adam Levine. If I could freeze frame the close up shots of his angelic face, I would. Here is an amazing clip of last season’s winner Javier Colon:

We can’t talk about underdogs without mentioning Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks. His sudden rise to fame and basketball glory has been incredible and his #17 frock is now the number one selling jersey in the NBA. Not to mention, stock in Madison Square Garden has skyrocketed since he stepped on the court and “Linsanity” was born. Dave Letterman did his best to expose the top “Lin Puns” in his segment, “Top Ten.” Though he may fall a bit short he has to get you thinking – how many ways can people really turn this guy’s name into a phrase? My favorite has to be “Linning.”

This is really an INSANE video. In football you can only throw the ball forward up the field one time per play BUT lateral or backwards passes can be completed an indefinite number of times. This video is from a Division III college team and it truly is the ultimate underdog comeback. Try to see if you can successfully count the 15, yes 15, lateral passes in this unbelievable winning play.

This kid may not think he is an underdog but judging by his lack of coordination during this interview I am not sure he is as good at basketball as he is passionate about it. He also may not be able to properly hear the question being asked and instead opt to answer a question he creates for himself, but you can’t put down a little boy with this much enthusiasm. I also do not know why the video is called “Zombie Kid Loves Basketball” because it should be called “Most Adorable Boy Ever.” You cannot help but pity the kid, but you also can’t help falling in love with him too – or saying “Lewis Park? You know the park by my house?” for days after watching it. Enjoy.
