Looking to savor the last few days of the summer? With the official start of fall right around the corner, it still feels more like mid-August here in D.C, and there is no better way to spend warm summer-like days than outside. One of the best ways to beat the heat in Georgetown and still enjoy the beautiful weather is to head to the waterfront. The other day, I checked out Farmers Fishers Bakers for lunch, which is located on the waterfront and part of the same restaurant group as Founding Farmers.
Like Founding Farmers, Farmers Fishers Bakers offers just about every cuisine you can imagine while still maintaining its commitment of sustainability and the freshest ingredients. From tacos to sushi, mussels to cheeseburgers, chocolate egg creams to beignets- you can have it all. The menu was so broad in cuisine types that at first it was slightly overwhelming. I recommend going with a lot of people as it one of those places where a few items on the menu will grab your attention and you will want to try more than one dish.
The soft baked pretzels are a must! They were warm and doughy on the inside with a crispy and slightly salty outside. Delicious! The pretzels are served with pimiento cheese sauce, BBQ mustard and sour cream onion dip. Although, I preferred the pretzels with just plain mustard. I ordered the chicken tacos on the sweet corn cake. They were good, but not as authentic as I was expecting, I would definitely get them again though. Rumor has it they have cinnamon rolls and donuts on the breakfast menu. I cannot wait to go back to try them. I am also still dreaming about trying one of the chocolate egg creams. I cannot believe I did not try it on my first visit!
The service was attentive, friendly and professional. Overall, it made for a great first dining experience at Farmers Fishers Bakers. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as brunch on the weekends. Brunch is a price fixed menu of $29.99 per person and includes coffee and iced tea. The menu is also available for take out, but in all honesty, this is one of those restaurants where the atmosphere is part of the meal. You definitely do not want to miss the chance to dine overlooking the Potomac and enjoy Georgetown’s waterfront.
The restaurant offers both outdoor and indoor seating. The inside décor has a farmhouse feel with floor to ceiling windows offering expansive views of the waterfront while the outside area overlooks the fountain area of the waterfront. I sat inside in one of the booths next to the windows. Even though I sat inside, I still felt like I was able to enjoy the beauty of the waterfront. Next time, though, I hope to sit outside. Needless to say, I will definitely be back as I enjoy the last moments of this summer weather.
