Every once in a while, you run into a hook up while walking to class. It’s awkward, but not nearly as bad as when you get with guys on different weekends who happen to be best friends. This may have happened to me, and to top it all off, they are both my really good friends. We get the gang together every once in awhile, ready to go out and have fun, and it only takes about 10 minutes for the jokes to start since, conveniently, everyone knows about it. Last night, we were all hanging out at a party and it was decided that the three of us just HAD to take a picture. My first reaction was absolutely not, but after my best friend begged me and told me how funny it would be, I gave in. Why not, right? It’s not like I was going to stop the jokes by not taking the picture.
We decided to leave the party and are casually walking down the street. There were no jokes for awhile and I thought everyone had forgotten about the whole thing. Then, I say one word to one of the boys and, ta-daaa, the jokes are back. The other guys just casually throw little phrases out referencing one hook up or the other. My personal favorite is when the guys will ask, “Hey, so, um, remember when you two hooked up!?” As if I didn’t already know…
I think the best thing to do if this happens to you is to take it all in stride. It has actually become a pretty funny joke amongst the group. I find myself laughing- literally laughing at myself. All awkwardness is funny from some perspective and you just have to find that perspective. I love my friends and when looking at it from their perspective, the whole situation is actually hilarious. If you ever get with two best friends just put your arms around them, embrace it, and smile for the picture!
