4 Methods To Conquering Your Alarm Clock

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Georgia Southern chapter.

Some people hear their alarms go off the first time while others sleep through it. Then you have the majority that hit the snooze button quite a number of times. What feels like only five more minutes of sleep has now turned into an hour and now you’re running late. I’m guilty of this, but you don’t have to be. Following these simple methods will improve your morning routine, set your body’s biological clock, and eventually help you forget about using “snooze.”

1. Be Realistic

Getting out of bed in the morning is quite a difficult task for many people. A lot of people make the mistake of setting their alarm too early. Start off small. Don’t set your alarm an hour earlier the first time. You’re likely to fall into your old habit of hitting the snooze button…REPEATEDLY!!! Set your alarm 15 minutes earlier than usual and with time slowly increase by 5 minutes until you reach your desired time. 5 minutes may not seem like much, but how many times have you said, “If only I had just 5 more minutes?”

2. Conquering the Alarm Clock

Don’t hit the snooze button!!! It’s your enemy, not your friend. Once you hit the snooze button, you make it easier for your body to ignore future alarm settings. One way to prevent this is by putting your alarm clock away from the bed’s reach, yet still close enough to hear the alarm go off. The walk to turn off the alarm will have your body up and ready to take on the day.

3. Blast It To The Max

Make sure the volume is turned all the way up. There’s no point in setting an alarm if you won’t be able to hear it. Another great tip is not always using the default buzz setting. Set your alarm using your favorite radio station or favorite song if you’re using your phone. What better way to wake up than listening to some of your favorite tunes? This is a sure way to get you up and going.

4. Prepare The Night Before

The hard part is getting out of bed, but the most time spent is getting ready. By already having your necessities (attire, bag, lunch, etc.) laid out you save yourself so much time when getting ready in the morning. It takes the morning rush away and you’ll have more time to enjoy your morning.

Finaly piece of advice: Sticking to your morning routine during breaks and on the weekends will soon have your body’s natural clock waking you up before your alarm goes off.
