Halloween has always been a favorite holiday not because of all the amazing free candy you receive, but because of all the neat costumes you encounter-and they don’t come cheap. A good Halloween costume prices around $40+ and while attending college…well I don’t have to tell you how far $40 can take you (that’s about equivalent to a week’s worth of gas). Finding a Halloween costume doesn’t have to be stressful or expensive. Below are 7 inexpensive, creative costumes that you can make yourself-with little to no money!
7. Lifeguard
Break out your red one piece or leotard and prepare to save lives this Halloween! Well…at least turn a lot of heads. Don’t have a red one piece or leotard? That’s okay red/white shorts and a red/white T-shirt will suffice. If you really want to go all out for this, purchase some iron on letters (Walmart or Hobby Lobby) and iron on Lifeguard. Purchase two extra I’s to make the first aid symbol (cross). Also adding a whistle and sun visor really brings this costume to life.  Â
6. JellyBeans
Okay, I know what you’re thinking. I was skeptical about this as well, but once put together, it’s a very fun and creative Halloween costume. All you’ll need for this is a large clear plastic bag, some multi-colored balloons, and ribbon. It’s super adorable and will bring much laughter the party.
5. Stick Figure
This is another bizarre, yet creative costume. It looks weird with the lights on, but if you’re going to a dim lit party, than this outfit will surely make you stand out. You’ll need glow sticks (which you can purchase from your local dollar store), and tape/glue sticks.
4. 80’s/90’s
Time to turn up old school style. When all else fails, this is the ultimate costume. You have everything you need right in your own closet. Bright tights, puffy skirts, leotards, oversized sweaters, off the shoulder shirts, denim jackets, big hair, excessive make-up, knee high socks, etc. I mean the options are endless with this classic look that will surely turn heads.
3. Penny Proud
Why not be one of your childhood favorites! This look only entails a white button down shirt, pink cardigan, a purple skirt, white socks, and black shoes. Oh, don’t forget the low ponytails and red lips for this cute look!
2. Sexy Kitten
This is an all-time favorite for make-up enthusiast. If you’re not sure how to do the makeup for this look, there are many tutorials on YouTube that are easy to follow. You’ll need some cat ears which you can purchase from a dollar store (Dollar Tree, Family Dollars, Dollar General, etc.) or your local beauty supply store. Now for the outfit, depending on what look you’re going for this could be a black romper, black dress, even a black shirt and black tights/shorts to turn into a sexy kitten with a whole lot of cattitude.

1. Rosie the Riveter
Can we do it! Oh yes we can! Channeling this invincible power icon isn’t expensive at all. In fact, you might have all the essentials you need right in your very own closet. A denim shirt, dark blue jeans, and a red bandanna.Â
Whatever you decide to be this Halloween, personalize your costume and make it fit your style. Be safe and have fun!!!Â
