You may know the Georgia-based artist for being among one of the youngest performers at the 2017 Coachella festival or for protesting in 2017 at the Dolce and Gabbana’s runway show in Milan. He’s also famously known for Famously known for his songs “Devil’s Whisper” and “Cigarette Song”. Raury began his musical journey in high school, making songs in a basement. After graduating, he decided to skip out on college and pursue a music career. This leap was proven successful. In 2014 he threw his first music festival called “Raurfest”, where he brought out artist to showcase Atlanta’s diverse music scene. After it’s success, Raury was deemed the “ringleader” of new Atlanta sounds and it didn’t take long for musical legends such as Andre 3000 to take notice. However, since then, Raury has denounced any and all labels. In 2018, he decided to leave his label Columbia Records. Stating in previous interviews that he “rather die than be controlled”.
It’s clear this free spirit has found solace. He’s now on the road on for his “into the woods” series. He’s literally bringing his music straight to the fans. With just his jeep, guitar, and beautiful dog blazer he’s telling a new story. His early music tended to be about love and his journey through the music industry, but this time is about freedom, new life, and transformation.
He came to GSU this past weekend and played two shows. He surprised us with 22 new songs that you can now stream on Soundcloud for free. He dropped the hot new tracks stated that “the industry plays too many games”, so he decided to follow his heart and continue his music career his way. He’s such a well-respected artist because he doesn’t care too much about the industry, he just wants to get his message out there to the real fans. Well Raury, we all hear you loud and clear. We can learn a thing or two from Raury about taking the road less traveled. We stan a true legend.
