This time of the year is daunting for multiple reasons; the semester is hitting hard and homecoming is hitting even harder. Staying focused and feeling accomplished becomes difficult, and giving up seems to be the easier thing to do. Having gone through this three times already, I think I found out how to beat “the slows”.
One thing to keep in mind is that you are not one thing. You are not a grade, a paper, a bad night, late assignment, or a bill. These are things that are temporary and binary, you are so much more than that. According to Alfred Korzybski, you are a time binder. A time binder can make decisions based on understanding changes in their environment over time. A time binder is a master of cause and effect. You have the power to choose what’ll have an effect on your mood, and whether or not it matters.

Do yourself a favor, think about who and WHAT you were when you were in high school. Yikes right? Now think about who you are now. You’re smarter, more independent, and have a lot on your shoulders. Take pride in that, because all the changes you have gone through was because of the choices you made. So relax, remember that things change and time floats on.  .

You got this.
