7 Things to do to Destress This Week

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Gettysburg chapter.

1. Drink some tea

Constant Comment, Lady Grey, Lavender, and Chamomille are all great teas that you can find at your local supermarket, and are tasty as well as affordable! If you’re willing to pay a little extra, or aren’t a fan of black tea, check out some of the other flavored teas, like vanilla, caramel, or green tea varieties.

2. Go for a drive

This doesn’t have to be a long drive! In Gettysburg, we have an outdoor mall called the Outlets that are a 10 minute drive from campus. Sometimes I drive there and back to blow off steam. Turn up the radio, open the window (weather permitting), and let the stress rush off you. If you don’t have a car, see if you can tag along with a friend on a grocery run. Any break from campus is a good break.

3. Take a shower

Sometimes, self-care isn’t glamourous. Sometimes you haven’t showered in three days, and your hair is grimy and your face is starting to break out again. So take the 20 minutes to wash off the dirt and the stress of the week, put on some fresh clothes, and get back out there feeling better than you did before.

4. Watch a YouTube show

Sometimes all you need is a 15 minute break, and YouTube is perfect for short breaks like this. Some of my favorite channels are Vox, Life Noggin, and Good Mythical Morning (above).

5. Listen to some music

Studying is the perfect time to test out new music. I would recommend gonig to Pandora and typing in your favorite band to make a radio station, or searching a genre on Spotify to check out their curated playlists.

6. Clean your room

Again, self-care can’t always feel good. Sometimes, you need to do something that doesn’t feel fun but will help you in the long run. Take out the trash, make your bed, put your clothes in the hamper, and hang up those shirts you barely wore. Studies have shown that a clean room can give you major health benefits, so when you take a break from your busy day, use part of it to straighten up your room.

7. Call your mom

You know you miss her, and she would love to hear from you. So pick up the phone and give up an update about your week. Just hearing her voice will give you the strength to finish strong and rest up before the next week’s assignments.
