There is a level of superficiality that roams the halls of the dorms. Roams the halls of the academic buildings. And the streets of the campus. Friend groups fall apart faster than they started. Friends lose interest easily. College is a place where a lot of people are still maturing and learning about themselves. With this, it is easy for friendships to be formed out of convenience, like with people who live on the same floor as you or with people you have the same classes with. In college, you learn to value real friendships instead of superficial ones.

I’ve learned to pick and choose the people I want to be around because there’s only so much effort and time you can waste on people who don’t deserve it. Thankfully, it can still be easy to form friends in the beginning. Joining clubs and activities on campus really does help create friendships. Through various connections found in your extracurricular activities, you can find people with whom you share common interests and values.

People always say that you find lifelong friendships in college. People who will be your bridesmaids, maids of honor, best men, and groomsmen. That is all still possible when you go with your gut and have healthy and positive friendships.
