Binge- a-thon: Must See Series to Watch Over the Winter Break

For some, the winter break will be full of new adventures and holiday trips. For the more introverted types, the winter break will be the perfect opportunity for some TLC with our Netflix and Hulu accounts. Check out these watch-worthy series that won’t make you regret binge- watching shows your entire winter break!

 

Quantico

 

 

 

This new ABC hit will constantly have you on the edge of your seat! Quantico stars Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, as her character, Alex Parrish, must fight to prove that she is not the mastermind behind a huge terrorist attack that took place at Grand Central Station. Evidence proves that the real terrorist is one of the FBI recruits that Parrish trained with at the FBI academy in Quantico, Virginia. Through flashbacks, we learn about the lives of each recruit and become closer, each time, to finding out who is the terrorist organizer of the biggest terror attack since September 11, 2001. This thriller drama can be watched on Hulu as well as the ABC website.

 

Sense8

 

 

 

Sense8 is a science fiction drama that follows eight strangers who live all over the world. These eight culturally different individuals normally live their lives until suddenly, they all become mentally and emotionally connected after having a vision of the death of a woman. The eight discover that they are “sensates” and they are able to sense, communicate, and use each other’s knowledge and skills. They must learn how to use their abilities while trying to protect themselves from another malicious sensate who is attempting to hunt them down.  Sense8 is a Netflix Original and is streamed on the site.

 

Gossip Girl

 

 

Gossip Girl surrounds the lives of a group of rich friends who reside in the Upper East Side of New York City. The teen drama explores the complicated lives of Serena van der Woodsen, the ‘it girl’, Blair Waldorf, the queen bee, Chuck Bass, the mysterious bad boy, Nate Archibald, the wonder boy, and Dan Humphrey, the middle class outsider who attends private school with the previous, but on scholarship. As the friends try to navigate through life, they are often faced with issues presented by a secretive blogger, and omniscient narrator, Gossip Girl. Watch as they battle their personal issue as they often become very public, on Netflix.

 

Narcos

 

 

 

Narcos centers on the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar. The story features the vicious and violent cocaine industry in Columbia. In the this crime drama, Escobar runs his drug pin, making millions, with little opposition until the United States interferes with the Colombian government. DEA agent Steve Murphy fights endlessly to destroy Escobar’s business and kill him, but is often defeated by dirty cops and Escobar’s large network of Colombian workers. The series is mostly in Spanish but there are helpful subtitles throughout the show. The Netflix original is currently streaming now.

 

Jane the Virgin

 

 

 

Jane Villanueva is a determined and religious young lady living in Miami. She has decided to go along with her family’s tradition of saving herself for marriage. This vow is shattered when she is accidentally artificially inseminated by her doctor during a routine check up. More interestingly, the donor is her former playboy teenager crush, who is now a married man, cancer survivor, and hotel owner where Jane works. This romantic comedy can be watched on Netflix and the CW website.

 

Scream Queens

 

 

 

The Kappa Kappa Tau sorority has always been a prestigious sorority at Wallace University. Led by the Queen Bee, Chanel Oberlin, and her Chanel minions, they rule the campus with fear. Events lead up to the reprising of a 20-year-old mysterious of the disappearance of twin babies of a Kappa Kappa Tau sister that died giving birth to them in the Kappa house. The sorority sisters must solve the mystery and figure out how the Red Devil serial killer connects to the missing babies, and why the Red Devil is targeting current Kappa sisters. The hilarious horror black comedy can be found on Hulu and the Fox network’s website.

   

American Horror Story:

 

 

 

American Horror Story is an anthology horror series. Each season there is a completely new storyline with new characters. Currently, American Horror Story has five seasons. The first season, subtitled Murder House, takes place in Los Angeles in 2011 and features the bizarre and deadly events in a notorious suburban house. The second season, subtitled Asylum, is set in Massachusetts in 1964 and depicts the horrid truths happening in the establishment for the criminally insane. Coven, the subtitled third season, takes place in New Orleans, Louisiana in the year 2013, following a band of witches who must fight off others who hope to annihilate them. Freak Show, the fourth subtitled season, is set in 1952 Jupiter, Florida, following one of the last freak show troupes who struggle to survive and keep their troupe. The current and fifth season, Hotel, takes place in Los Angeles, California in 2015 and centers around the staff and occupants of a supernatural hotel that connects back to the Murder House of season. Seasons one through four can be watched on Netflix and the fifth season can be watched on the FX network website.

 

Game of Thrones:

 

 

 

Game of Thrones is a fictional period fantasy series adapted by the novel of the same name. It takes place in the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. Noble families violently fight and struggle for the control of the Iron Throne. Besides the constant fighting within the realm, there are also outside threats from outside continents to the north and east. The series can be watched on HBO GO.

 

Power:

 

Power is a drama that follows the life of James St. Patrick, also nicknamed Ghost. He is the owner of a popular New York nightclub as well as a huge leader in a major drug operation. Ghost has to balance his public and private life while battling outside enemies such as the police and other rival drug dealers. He later realizes he wants to leave the drug industry and fully commit to his nightclub and mistress. His decision to do so results in some major consequences. Power can be watched on STARZ play.

 

A Different World:

A spin-off of the Cosby Show, A Different World is a sitcom that follows the life of Denise Huxtable at the Historical Black College, Hillman College. The show mostly focuses on the characters Whitley Gilbert and Dwayne Wayne after the first season. The show addresses a lot of controversial topics as well as depicts everyday college life and student life involvement such as Greek life. A Different World can be viewed on Netflix.
