Brandon Hayden ’18: Being Confident and Staying Happily Dressed

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

When it comes to being young and wise, a lot of us in our early stages of life cannot raise our hand and vouch for that statement to be true. But it seems as if sophomore Brandon Hayden has figured out the secrets to attacking life full force while also being positive. It’s a given that he would name his website Happily Dressed because that was my first impression of the young man. Beyond his fashion sense, he has produced multiple videos centered around topics on Georgia State and his personal life on YouTube that have been received with a warm welcome by many all around the world. His talents don’t stop there as he does graphic design and he claims that he can also sing as well, but he won’t publish the videos for us to see just yet (sad face). Read more to find out how he tackles life with a positive energy that is sure to inspire a spark within ourselves.

Her Campus: As generic as this question might be, it may come with an interesting answer. So what is your favorite color?

Brandon Hayden: I like Green because it represent moneys, green, and above all envy.

HC: Speaking of envy, do you have anyone that you idolize the most or has something you are envious of?

BH: I hate to sound so cliché, but Beyonce’s entrepreneurship is really something I hope to achieve, and also Jesse J because she just resonates a carefree attitude and her positivity just sticks with me!

HC: How about fashion wise?

BH: Jaden Smith’s style has really evolved into something that I like and Kanye West has added an interesting twist to fashion that really inspires me.

HC: So you have mentioned some pretty famous people that are similar career-wise. Is that the path that you would like to take?

BH: Not necessarily,  I want a career being myself through my blog and eventually be a motivational speaker especially to younger kids. I believe being yourself is the most important thing in order to be successful in life and I just want to inspire others to do the same.

HC: What kind of blog do you have and when did you begin blogging?

BH: I began blogging in January of 2014 and it is mainly a blog highlighting my best outfits along with inspirational quotes.

HC: What inspired you to start?

BH: Basically my friends began a blog that made me want to start one of my own. I have always liked fashion as well so I thought I could combine my interest in creating a blog that consists of my fashion. It was not easy at first and my website looks completely different from when I began but I have finally figured out a theme that represents me.

HC: So what would you say is the hardest part to keeping a blog?

BH: The commitment really takes a toll on me sometimes. A lot of people don’t realize how much work goes into designing your brand or investing money in all the outfits and the camera and the like but it is worth it because the best part is I get to set example for the other people, mentally, physically so they can be themselves. People just need to be reassured that you decide what your worth is and how far you go in life.

HC: From my point of view, you have created this stigma about yourself that a lot of people don’t have. Do you agree or disagree? What do you think sets you apart from other bloggers?

BH: I guess I can agree to a certain extent but essentially my individuality and drive is something that I think strongly stands out. I do my work because it is fun and natural to me.

HC: Do you have a favorite motivation speaker since that is your ultimate goal?

BH: I actually do not have a favorite motivational speaker that I can pinpoint to but I get really inspired by people that I meet in my daily life. True and authentic stories are what inspires me the most. And having people coming up to me confession their appreciation for my videos really touches me.

HC: So with all your blogging and video making, what are you aiming to achieve ultimately?

BH: I just want to have a presence worldwide and to inspire a world where people speak the truth, are 100% positive, and are not scared to be individuals. It would be pretty amazing also to have sponsorships with Zara, Topman, or Urban Outfitters (Which is where he works btw!).

HC: So how has attending Georgia State shaped who you are as a person or altered your views on life?

BH: The community at Georgia State has led me to act more as an adult because we are basically living in the real world. You get the best of both worlds being in a college that is also centered in the city; it forces you to grow up faster and with that I have been able to create my blog to suit my personality as well as goals.

HC: You have a great sense of fashion and self expression so I’m interested to know what you want to be for Halloween this year?

BH: So this year I want to be dressed as a feeling . Something like hope or freedom or silence that just speaks for itself.

HC: That is sure to stand out! Is there anything else you would like to say?

BH: Thanks for interviewing me, shout out to Her Campus for the great work you all have been doing! Check out my website and channel
