Budgeting Your Way Through Homecoming

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at GSU chapter.

With homecoming season upon us, there are so many moves to be made, people to see and places to be. However, with all of the hype, it can be easy to spend more than you need to or intend to! To help alleviate the rush of heavy spending, we have a few tips!

Budget out your expenses ahead of time so that you know when and where you spend your money. Do you plan on going out to eat with your friends? Giving yourself a food budget can help so much here! If you are a foodie like us, then you want to take the extra precaution to not overspend on something that will last you only a few minutes.

Getting the best outfit is definitely the key to a sleek look at your homecoming ball or parties. Before you settle on the $100 find, try shopping around at local boutiques for deals, scaling the promotions portion of your email for coupons and even hitting some high end thrift stores to get you the best bang for your buck. When looking for accessories, go with the theory of less is more.

Depending on your outfit, you may want to wear as least jewelry as possible. You do not want to take away from your looks and plus, you can save some extra cash.

Looking for a way to get around? Try carpooling!

Carpooling is not only efficient, but it makes for the best “I remember when” stories years after college. I mean, if you are going to be with your friends the entire night, why not kick off the evening with them anyway? If none of your friends have cars, there is still a way to save!

Try a ride share service like Lyft or Uber who sometimes had deals with local businesses, which is even better when you split the costs several ways.

If you find these tips helpful, let us know! Happy homecoming everyone, and remember to stay safe!
