As the school year comes to a close, Gustavus takes time to recognize students who have gone above and beyond in academics and activities throughout the year at Honors Weekend. I had the opportunity to interview a few students being recognized in their departments.
Emily Rundquist is a Gustavus senior pianist who is performing in the Senior Honors Recital.
Emily has been working on her piano piece since last summer in order to get the feeling of the piece just right to express to the audience. During Honors Weekend, she’s looking forward to “that special moment [during the Senior Honors Recital] when everyone is listening together and sharing the same sound.” When asked what advice she would give to other Gusties hoping to be honored in the future, she replied, “Work hard and love what you’re doing.”Â
Tony Massaro is a Gustavus senior Honors Biology major and has been very involved in research within the biol department for the past three years.
Tony is this year’s recipient of the Rupert Anderson Award in Systematics for success in academics and research as a biology student. Tony is also being recognized for membership in the biology honors society, Tri-Beta, and the President’s Honor List (a GPA based award). He believes the extra experience he has gained as a Honors biology major have helped prepare him for his future after he graduates from Gustavus. When asked what advice he would give to other Gusties who are hoping to be honored in years to come, he answered, “Look for opportunities to stretch your education beyond the classroom.”
All are invited to help celebrate the accomplishments of these students and many more this weekend. Are you interested in supporting your friends and family at any or all of the events happening this weekend? Here is a brief itinerary of the fun events to come.
