What made you want to join Program Board?

When I was in high school, I was involved in our Student Leadership Council, which planned all of the big school events such as Homecoming and Prom. When I got to GW, I wanted to continue that experience by joining an event planning leadership organization. Program Board is the coolest governing body of GW because we plan big events like Fall Fest, Relay For Life, and Spring Fling, and so this seemed like a perfect fit.

What was the most exciting project you worked on being on Program Board?

The best project I’ve worked on was definitely Fall Fest! Generally, our concerts take months of planning, hard work, emails, and phone calls (my advisor and I are BFF’s now). There were definitely some ups and downs along the way, but to see thousands of students come out to Fall Fest really made the hard work paid off. It’s great to be able to provide a free concert full of fun giveaways to the entire student body. I’ve also gotten to meet some of our amazing past artists including Cold War Kids, Diplo, and Macklemore.

What is your favorite memory of being on Program Board?

My favorite memory of being on PB so far was the Out of the Darkness Walk. The walk was sponsored by the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and PB sponsored a team in conjunction with our Breaking The Silence month of mental health awareness programming. Our Executive Board did the walk together and really bonded from the experience. We had some very serious discussions about suicide and mental health, as well as just had fun as an organization. While the nature of the event was more somber, I really had a meaningful experience.

Are there any events that you hope to put together this year?

I’m really excited about the newest event we are putting on this year! It’s called GW’s Got Talent, and is an open competition for any talented individuals at GW. We had our first round of auditions in early October, and are hoping to release our Top 12 soon. After that, we will have a finale event on November 20 in Betts Theater at 7:30 p.m. The winner of our finale event will get to open for Spring Fling! We are also grappling with the idea of hosting a PB Gala in the spring. This event would look like some of the formals that other organizations put on, however we would also have amusements, such as a silent auction, and proceeds of the event would benefit Relay For Life.

What other organizations are you involved in on campus?

I am the Marketing Director for Lemonade Day D.C., and have been with this amazing organization since it’s inception two years ago. I am also a sister of Sigma Delta Tau, a STAR, the public relations chair of the FREE Project, and am enjoying my third year working with Academic Technologies.

Do you have any tips for someone who wants to be involved in multiple organizations on campus?

The biggest piece of advice I have is to focus on time management. I would never be able to balance my schoolwork, internships, and student org business if I did not manage my time very strictly. It is a great idea to get a planner, a notebook for meetings, and I also love to use apps like Wunderlist to help manage my tasks.
