It has been a little over a month since we all returned to Hamilton’s campus, which means it’s been about a month since you started to get tired of Commons’ dining options. If you are in search of some new food to spice up your routine, try one (or more) of these five easy combinations, all of which have been vetted by yours truly.
- Old Bay Fries
The Marylander in me loves this combo. Commons only started putting out Old Bay this year, but I am certainly taking advantage of it. Sprinkling some Old Bay on french fries from the grill creates a spicy and flavorful fry experience that all Marylanders – and everyone else – will love. A little taste of home!
- Cinnamon Sugar Peanut Butter Apples
I first tried this combination a few weeks ago. I wanted an apple with peanut butter, but I also wanted to satisfy my sweet tooth. I added some cinnamon sugar from the oatmeal section to my peanut butter and it ended up being really delicious. It kind if tastes like a peanutbuttery apple pie.
- Toasted Cookie
I have to admit; Commons makes a mean chocolate chip cookie. A little crunchy around the edges and chewy in the middle, but if you put these through the toaster it becomes a next level cookie experience. Chocolate chip cookie + toaster = melty deliciousness. Pro tip: put the cookie in the toaster face-down so it comes out of the shoot ready to plop right-side up on your plate.
- Chocolate Milk Coffee
This is by far my best trick. The coffee at Commons is usually pretty subpar, but as a coffee addict, I have to drink it. Some Marketplace or Fogbuster with a little sugar and chocolate milk makes a great mocha coffee to start your day (or a long night of work!). Also, the cold chocolate milk cools it off without making it taste too watered down.
- Sriracha Grilled Cheese
The weekends can be particularly difficult when it comes to finding good food on campus. Lunch ends at 2:00 pm and since most of us roll out of bed at around 10:00 am and make our way to breakfast at 11:00 am, a 2:00 pm lunch is a little too early. If you miss that 2:00 pm window, don’t freak out. There is still the sandwich bar; unfortunately, the sandwich bar is usually picked over, hence the importance of the Sriracha Grilled Cheese. It requires very few ingredients from the sandwich bar, just bread and cheese! Put that in the panini press with a little Sriracha and voila, a delicious lunch.
