Every girl knows that searching for a new bra is possibly the most frustrating experience, second only to missing the Jitney and having to hike all the way back up the hill to campus. Anyway, with dozens of companies throwing their products in your face via commercials, social media and print it’s almost impossible to decide where to start and what stores even deserve to be visited. Not to mention the fact that just looking at the advertisements for bras and underwear from certain stores can make you feel like crap! No, I do not look like that perfect airbrushed model, but maybe if I buy that bra I will? No! Don’t fall for the trap! That’s exactly what they want you to think and that’s exactly why big companies like Victoria’s Secret have people whose only job is to make you feel inadequate when you look at their advertisements. What you should really be asking yourself is why should you be supporting a company that makes you feel inadequate about your body? Your underwear should make you feel confident in your own skin and should not make you feel like someone else who you think is prettier, skinnier, or sexier than you.
As far as I can tell there is only one bra and underwear company out there that sends the real message young women today need to hear about their self confidence and body image: Aerie by American Eagle. I know American Eagle might only be recognizable to you as your favorite brand to wear in middle school (skinny jeans and multiple layered tank tops were always the move), but it has come a long way and is now totally acceptable as a college woman’s bra store. Unlike some other big brand bra companies Aerie doesn’t photoshop their models! You could go on their site right now (which I encourage you to do) and you will see amazing images of diverse, happy, and healthy sized women showing off their imperfect skin and bellies. Now that’s what real women look like- beautiful in their imperfection and all. If the positive message that Aerie sends by not photoshopping their models isn’t enough motivation to check out their products, you should also know that their bras are pretty affordable, topping out at $50. I know now you are thinking that I clearly don’t know the definition of affordable, but with the sales Aerie has, almost everyday you can get bras “buy one get one 50 percent off.” On top of that, their bras are normally reduced to begin with. Plus they have an 8 for $27 underwear deal that blows Pink’s 5 for $27 out of the water. Yet another reason to choose Aerie is that their different bra styles are actually different! Have you ever tried on every bra style in a store and had every one fit you in the exact same sub par way? I certainly have. At aerie you know that every style you try will be different and you can find one that fits you perfectly. And if you don’t have time to run to the store and try bras on, you can shop online at Aerie.com by size and view models wearing the bra of your interest in your exact size. After reading this article you may be saying to yourself, “Jeez! This girl is way more passionate about bras then anyone should be,” but I wouldn’t write this article about Aerie and its products if it they weren’t worth your time.Â
