Being a class clown isn’t all that it takes to be a comedian. It takes more than being funny. Today we will interview Mr. Ross Watkins, a 2nd year journalism major at Hampton University from Los Angeles, California about his popular podcast Comedy and Conversations. Here we will get the scoop on how he is using this podcast as a platform to increase his audience as a comedian.
Â
HC: What is Comedy and Conversations exactly?
Ross: It’s a podcast where I am able to interview professional and upcoming comics. It’s also a platform where I can share my experience and stories as an upcoming stand up comedian.
Â
HC:Â When was it created?
Ross: April 13th, 2020
Â
HC: Why was Comedy and Conversations created?
Ross: Since I am a journalism major, I’ve always been interested in interviewing people. And since I’m a comedian, I was put in the perfect position to interview my fellow comedians that I see whenever I go to do stand up. I also desired to have another source of entertainment and content besides my comedy, so a podcast was my best option.
Â
HC: Which episode was the most memorable or the most fun to record?Â
Ross:I enjoyed filming episode 3 with Kennen Wayans Jr. and Croix Kyles because they are two of my closest friends and basically family. I also enjoyed filming episode 8 because that was my first solo episode.
Â
HC: How will Comedy and Conversations assist in your aspiring career?
Ross: With CNC, I will be able to reach a bigger audience due to the growing interest in podcasts. As my comedy career grows, the podcast will grow as well, and vice versa. I also have started doing solo episodes because if I’m able to talk for long periods of time on the podcast, it will help grow my sets on stage where I can perform for more time.
