Bill Gates In The Making

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

To the queens who constantly adjust their crown to make sure it’s centered perfectly, to the ladies who wear 6 inch heels and have confidence that can’t be tarnished, to the ones surviving off of 5 hour energy and coffee, to the hustlers, dream chasers, go getters, girls who run the world, here’s to you.

Being a girl boss and a female with ambition isn’t the easiest job. You’re the friend who everyone comes to, who holds everything together like glue even with the weight of the world on your shoulders. You’re the advice giver, the free therapist, the venting board, and the light of encouragement. You have a small close group of friends that you will do anything for, a lot of times your efforts go unnoticed but you don’t do the things you do for attention or credit, you do them because it’s in your nature.

You have so many things going for yourself that you get impatient and frustrated at times because you know you can be doing so much more. You’re usually hard on yourself, you always push yourself past your limit and don’t apologize for it. You are slept on because you’re humble when accumulating success, you don’t brag, you don’t boast you just plot on ways to get more.

You’re envied, most dudes won’t date you because you refuse to lower your standards and entertain anyone who isn’t pushing themselves or you to be greater. They say you’re intimidating simply because you are doing what they can’t. You leave dudes who hit your phone to waste your time on read, but then complain about not having anyone but it’s okay because God is working on your king – at least that’s what you tell yourself.

You’ve probably been called a “bitch” or “stuck up” just because you choose to walk with confidence and with a purpose. Most people might not understand why you grind the way you do and may even think you do it for attention but you know for sure that the goal you’re working towards is much bigger than you.

They will try and change you, make you feel bad for going after what you want but you won’t get distracted. You will be isolated, sometimes things won’t make sense, you will be scared out of your mind for the next step but you’ll always come out on top. You have an imagination beyond this world, a soul so pure that you will give your last to anyone in need.

You don’t search for revenge, you get quiet and get busy and let them regret doing you wrong later on. Your mind runs wild with all of these outlandish ideas because you refuse to be confined to a box; you break stereotypes, put your haters to shame, you bless everything you touch – baby girl you’re magic.

Here’s to you, my sister, the one who always feel like she’s overlooked, the one who put more hours in at the library than she does social media, the one who perfects her brand and makes a name for herself. The misunderstood, the forgotten, the quiet, the shy, the so focused on getting this money she doesn’t have time to entertain things that will bring her down. To the girl who prays, to the girl who wants nothing more than to be successful, many people may doubt you, you may even doubt you, but you weren’t created to be normal. You are God’s favorite, he took his time on you. You go through what you go through because He made you strong enough to handle it. Don’t apologize, don’t explain, don’t second guess, and don’t take No for an answer. You are worth everything you desire, and even when they don’t see you, I see you.
