From interning with major stars to being a College Representative for Atlantic Records, our Campus Celebrity is making her way through the entertainment industry with force. Briana Mulzac a senior Public Relations Major, Marketing Minor from Brooklyn, New York is this week’s Campus Celeb!
HC: How has your Hampton experience been?
BM: It’s been great so far, I’ve met a lot of cool new people from all different regions and I’ve been able to network and grow here over my past four years
HC: I saw that you were once a contributing writer for HerCampus, how was that experience for you?
BM: It was great! It gave me the platform to write about things that I felt were important to me and other topics that were relatable to other people as well. It was like a sisterhood, just a whole group of people interested in writing and sharing their stories. I just loved it!
HC: How did you manage to get to where you are today?
BM: Consistency. Just making sure I was staying on top of anything that I was doing. Really being resilient in all situations and trying to elevate every year, every summer, every internship, I just want to make it better than the last. I think me putting that energy out into the universe, I’m big on energies and third eyes stuff, so me putting that out there and knowing that there is something better. I just find myself always doing something bigger   Â
HC: What are a few tips that you have for those who are in search of internships and also networking?
BM: Definitely stay on top of the companies that you are interested in. Making sure you know when applications are open, deadlines, trying to find people who work in these companies and fields via Linkedin, Google… make sure your resume and application is up to par and at the forefront. It takes more than just going through their application portal. Sometimes you have to send that personal email or just take that trip to their office and be like,”Yo I’m here and I’m about to talk to somebody.” I think that can really push you and that makes people stand out. So many people have gotten far by doing things they weren’t supposed to do. You got to break the rules sometimes Â
HC: How do you manage to stay motivated and balance all that you have on your plate?
BM: Family and my career. I know that eventually I have to take care of myself and I have to [take] care of those who came before and behind me. So just knowing that, I have a lot of momentum for myself and for them to see me stop right now would be a big let down. I feel like I’m doing it more than just for myself. A lot of people in my family are watching, a lot of people are rooting me on and people who are interested in seeing “What’s Next.” I think there is just too much happening right now for me to just stop. I get so many comments and so many stop throughout the day of girls asking me about internship opportunities and about what it is that I do and about all this stuff and I feel like they would be let down the most if I just stopped.
HC: What are your thoughts about Meek Mill’s current situation?
BM: It’s unfair, from what I’ve seen and heard. I feel that he has a longer sentence than those who have done way worse. I don’t think it was rational… I hope they can look over the case again because I feel like it’s just a way to keep another black man down. He’s trying to elevate and give back to the community.
HC: What is a quote you live by?
BM: *Laughs* Let me just think about it because “Get rich or die trying” is the first thing that comes to my head but that’s to ratchet right now *Laughs*…I actually don’t know. I’m going to go with “Get rich or die trying.”
HC: How do you calm your nerves before meeting these “stars” and going into interviews?
BM: I don’t really have nerves when it comes to meeting these people. I’m not really starstruck by them at all. When it comes to events though that is when I’m the most nervous because my name is on the line.
HC: Do you feel that you have made your mark at Hampton’s Campus?
BM: Yes, definitely. I guess as far as my work ethic, I’ve made my mark. People acknowledge and see what I’m doing. It’s  very inspirational for me to be able to do stuff in the entertainment industry that so many people want to do, and I’m doing it now. I definitely made my mark but I’m very low-key though. It’s kind of weird, people know what I do but I’m not really out on campus .
HC: What actress would you want to play you in a biopic of your life?
BM: Maybe Zendaya or Sanaa Lathan. Sanaa Lathan maybe too old… she could be the older me but right now maybe Zendaya or Yara Shahidi. Between those two.
