Matt Thompson is a a senior at Hampton University who is very talented in creating his own music, however many know him under his artist name, Matt Vista. Thompson constructs his own beats and has a unique style that demonstrates his own personality. Each song has layers that range from mellow to upbeat to soulful.Â
The Sociology major collaborates with many underground artists including Jid, Zoey K, and fellow Hamptonians Earthgang as well as J Roc. Matt Vista is a very down to earth guy who just loves making music and vibin’ with what life gives him.Â
Matt Vista says that “Listening to other artists’ works that I consider beter than my own…” is what inspires him to keep making music and shaping his craft. Visual art and Tumblr also inspires him while he creates his music.
He also shares that “people really don’t know how competitive I am when it comes to making music. I feel like that competitive spirit has made me a better producer.” Vista thinks that the best part about making music is to hear the final product. “After days and sometimes weeks of work/planning and knowing that I’ve made the best beat or song in life so far. Knowing hat in that beat I’ve expressed myself better than I could have ever done in words…it’s a pretty great feeling.”
In his spare time, the Fort Washington, Maryland native enjoys watching movies and hanging out with friends. His hobbies include photography and videography as well. Matt Vista’s music can be listened to while doing homework or getting ready for a night out on the town. Regardless, we at Her Campus Hampton U love his music along with many other Hamptonians.
