The back-to-college season brings that unmatched joy of reuniting with friends, the thrill of campus life, all-nighters, and, let’s be real, being surrounded by hundreds of students with almost the same goals as you (fingers crossed, right?)
But there’s another feeling you might get too…Â
You know that feeling when you want to spit, cough, sneeze, and also scratch something that’s not even in the back of the throat? Yeah, you got that college flu and it probably won’t go away for at least 3-4 weeks.Â
No matter how careful you are, this bug is a rite of passage for many students.
There are multiple reasons why you got the newest strain of the college flu and let’s be honest, we’ve all done a few of these so it’s okay.Â
- Not wearing a coat- Yes, the cute outfit might not NEED a coat but when you continue to go from the hot to the cold, you will get sick!
- Lack of sleep- being super busy all the time and staying up late can take a toll on an immune system so make sure you get some sleep!
- Stress, stress, and more stress- College is such a stressful time that throwing off important things such as drinking fluids, staying clean, and taking vitamins can be thrown out of the window.Â
Well now that you know you probably have college flu, you need some times how to deal with it and not continue to get even more sick.Â
- Rest!!! Yes, I know college is a time where it feels like there are not enough hours in a day but aim for at least 8 hours of sleep. Your body will thank you, and you’ll bounce back faster!
- Drink Water! Everyone has a Stanley water bottle now so let’s fill them up with water and drink as much water as you can each day! Water has so many benefits, not just for your immune system, but also for your mind and to stop bloating! I know we all want that cute BBL body so go drink some water!
- Take Vitamins! One really important vitamin to take is Elderberry! This medicine is high in antioxidants and vitamin C and will help with your immune system getting stronger and if you continue to take it daily, you won’t get sick!
- Using a Humidifier! This tiny little thing that you can fill with water and essential oils is not only good for a nice smelling room but if you put a few drops of peppermint, tea tree, or eucalyptus oil in your humidifier, i guarantee you and your roommate will be thankful to have clear nostrils!
- Stopping the spread of germs! College means we are all in close contact with each other so it can be easy to spread germs just by touching the same doorknob but just be mindful and always keep hand sanitizer with you!
