Greek of the Week: Brian Wilson

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Many of you may know him as the Turnup Man or even “The Life of the Party”, but Brian Wilson, is also a Spring 2016 initiate of the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. This Long Island native is a Senior Biology major, and Her Campus got the scoop on what sets him apart from many.

HC: Are there a lot of Omega Men in your family or did you decide to go against the grain?

BW: There’s not a lot of Omega Men in my family, however I have two Uncle’s that are. They were really involved in my life and taught me how to become a man. So they had a big influence on why I chose to be a Bruh.

HC: Do you feel as though being Greek changes people?

BW: Honestly I believe that it depends on the person. In certain aspects you are going to act differently of course, because you have to conduct yourself accordingly. But it shouldn’t change who you are as a person.

HC: Do you believe that it’s possible to date another Greek, or are you opposed?

BW: I don’t think Greeks should have some type of barrier on who they can or cannot date. If you find a person attractive then of course!

HC: Do you feel as though dating another Greek is more challenging?

BW: I would definitely say it’s harder because there’s more things you have to deal with, and the spotlight is definitely on you. Being Greek is almost like being a celebrity on campus.

HC: What’s the best thing about having line brothers?

BW: The best thing about having my line brothers is the fact that I can call them for anything and I know they’re going to be there for me foreal. They’re like my back bone and we definitely hold each other to a higher standard.

HC: Do you believe that the stereotypes about your organization are true? Why or why not?

BW: There’s some stereotypes that could be true, but honestly I still believe that it’s the person, not the Fraternity. The Fraternity doesn’t make a person, you can’t change who you are at the end of the day.

HC: Do you feel like girls throw themselves at you now that you’re Greek?

BW: No I don’t believe that they throw themselves at me. Some girls are naïve enough to do so, but that’s neither here or there.

HC: Who are you outside of being, Brian the Que?

BW: I’m just Brian the Turnup man. Before I pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity I was just the same’ol guy… I was always the life of the party. Nothing really changed, I’m just able to neck roll now.

HC:  What’s been your favorite part about being Greek so far?

BW: I don’t have to pay for anything and I love hoppin’. Most importantly I love the fact that I have a purpose instead of just going through the motions, in college.

HC: What would your advice be to other people who aspire to be like you?

BW: Don’t be like me. Be better than me foreal. Just hold yourself at a point where you want to be the best that you can be. Don’t let anybody tell you that you can’t be anything.

HC: How do you balance your social life, school work, and sanity?

BW: I’m not sane so with that being said the balance of everything just comes. There’s a lot of nights where you’re either up at a Fraternity meeting for hours on end, and still have work to do after. It’s all about sacrifices.
