Hampton Alum: Where Are They Now? Lauren Taylor

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Meet Lauren Taylor! Lauren is from Queens, New York. She graduated from Hampton with the Class of 2013, Quintessence 8 and with a degree in Marketing. Lauren was also a member of the Caribbean Pre-Alumni Council (CPAC) and the North Pre-Alumni Council (NPAC)

HC: Why did you choose Hampton University?

Taylor: I originally wanted to go to school for sports management. I narrowed my choices down to Hampton University, St. John, and Seton. I chose Hampton!

HC:  What was your favorite thing about Hampton?

Taylor: I loved that Hampton was like a family. A school small enough to be a family.

HC: Did you face any challenges at Hampton and how did you overcome them?

Taylor: Math! I took Calculus three times (laughs). I was homesick, but I stayed, made more friends, and eventually got over it.

HC: Being from New York, was it hard to adjust?

Taylor: In New York everything is so close together. I had to get used to not being able to walk to the corner store, because everything is so spaced out in Virginia. The people too! When you tell people that you’re from New York they automatically have this pic in their heads that we are like the golden child.

HC: Was it hard to adjust being back at home after graduation?

Taylor: The biggest adjustment was moving back in with my mom. And Penn Station! Everything is so crowded and people are bumping into you. When I come back to Hampton for homecoming, I’m at peace.

HC: What is your favorite memory?

Taylor: Running back to the dorm after curfew. We went to an off campus party that night, and we had to run back from Holmes Hall to Twitchell. I dropped my ID and had to run back to get it, so I got in trouble for missing curfew.

HC: Do you have or did you have a Hampton Boo?

Taylor: I did! (smiles) From freshman year to junior year. We’re cool friends now.

HC: Where are you now?

Taylor: I work for the NJ Law Journal. I have a Dual Position in Print and Digital Ads. We market towards Law Schools.

HC: What advice would you have for incoming and current Hampton students?

Taylor: Cherish every moment, take advantage, and NETWORK! I have friends from Hampton that are doing big things like working for big companies like Essence. I have friends in Cali and went to LA for the month!
