What better way to showcase HBCU women than at the Gyrl Get Hired conference?! Gyrl Get Hired is an initiative dedicated to helping the next generation in their career and leadership development. Hampton’s very own Asia Ware of The Cut and Briana Thompson of Spiked Spin Wellness participated in this year’s festivities and had a lot of gems to share. Both sessions allowed for our alumna to have their voices be heard and share their stories in a unique way.
For their inagural year, Gyrl Get Hired partnered with renowned multicultural hair company, Cantu Beauty. Cantu is dedicated to servicing Black and Latina women. Dametria Kinsley was at the forefront as Cantu’s Global Vice President of Marketing as the conference’s keynote speaker and made it a point to teach the girls to look inwardly at what they truly bring to the table and to take their T.I.M.E. in their journeys. The acronym helped to remind attendees that life is a marathon, not a sprint.
“Cantu believes success starts from within and as a brand that services Black and Brown communities, we want to make sure the next generation is equipped with the resources we wish we had when we were 17 and 23 to accelerate the path to purpose, path to profit and utterly path to potential,” said Kinsley in a press release.
Though the conference set sail in late September, it is still holding impact today as participants were able to take career advice, strategies for burnout, and other related topics home with them for their future success.
Gyrl Get Hired is an extension of the nonprofit organization, Gyrl Wonder, where their mission is empower young women through career development and social impact. This especially holds true for ambitious women who are looking for resources and tools to produce innovation.
