Hampton Man Crush: Dean Pottinger

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Ladies! This week’s man crush may be a familiar face to some. His name is Dean (Jamar) Pottinger, a Senior,  Kinesiology major from Upper Marlboro, Maryland. His face has been tossed around Hampton Twitter countless times with all the ladies asking who he is and where he came from. Transferring from Morehouse, Pottinger spends most of his time improving his love for Lacrosse and securing the bag on his path to entrepreneurship. He took some time to talk to Her Campus and give the real tea on what he looks for in a girl and what his plans are in the near future. Keep reading to see if he’s your Hampton man.

Q: Finding you on Twitter, how do you feel about your picture blowing up and over 700 girls fangirling over you. Was it a move for attention? Or did you just want to randomly post a picture and it got attention.

A: I don’t really have a lot of free time because of Lacrosse practice and classes. So, one day I had some spare time to scroll through twitter and posted a picture with the hashtag, #HamptonU, not really thinking much of it. After I posted it I gained about 300 new followers.

Q: What type of girls do you usually go for?

A: Someone smart, genuinely kind, and attractive in my eyes, but I really don’t have a preference. She also has to have some type of faith base because although I am not the most spiritual person, I do care about my religion.

Q: What are five things you live by?

A: I live by honesty, commitment, faith (all of my tattoos are spiritual reminders), wholeheartedness (good intentions), and discipline because I believe all successful people are disciplined.

Q: Describe your ideal date?

A: My ideal date would be a morning hike to see the sunrise, staying active or casually letting the day flow just enjoying each others presence. Kind of like a spontaneous chill wherever the day takes us.

Q: What are some turn offs and turn ons you have when it comes to being attracted to a girl?

A: What turns me on is a girl who can hold a good conversation. I don’t want to carry the whole conversation, it works both ways naturally. Also, I don’t know what it is but teeth does something to me. You have to have nice teeth. And the last turn on is really just matched energy. Some turn offs could be a girl with no goals and no intelligence. Girls who switch up the roles turns me off too. What I mean by that is like sometimes girls will DM me and pursue me then once we start texting they start to act hard to get and they dont like me and i’m supposed to chase them. That’s confusing.

Q: What song best describes you and why? What is your go to playlist?

A: The song that best describes me is Successful by Drake. I can relate to it because in the end I want to provide for my family by being successful. Being able to provide for my family motivates me the most. My go to artists are definitely Tyler the Creator, Isaiah Rashad, and any old J. Cole Mixtapes.

Q:What do you see yourself doing post graduation? Any business or projects you want to start?

A: After finishing grad school I plan on starting youth programs called Scholar Athletes, cultivating young athletes in life and steering them in the right direction. I also want to partner with a youth detention facility when the kids get out to help train them and get them into sports so they can be involved in something positive. The idea of  “Scholar Athletes” stemmed from my coaches impacting me in sports throughout my childhood. Also, over the summer I coached a high school lacrosse team and made great bonds with the players that motivated me to want to help others because I was in their position at one point.

We hope you enjoyed this weeks man crush, and that you have an idea of who Dean is. Wanna shoot you shot? Follow him on his social media below!
