This weeks’ Hampton Man Crush is Justin Jones. He is a Political Science major, from Atlanta, Georgia. In his downtime, Justin enjoys watching vintage films and hanging with friends. He is on the Debate and Forensics team and the Men’s Soccer Club. Justin also enjoys reading, his favorite book is “To Kill a Mocking Bird.” One fun fact about Justin is that he cut off all his social media at the start of 2015, because to him it is not the “wave”. Read more to find out about Justin.
HC: What’s your favorite thing to drink?
JJ: Water.
HC: What song do you have memorized?
JJ: 13th floor/elevators Outkast.
HC: What’s your favorite movie?
JJ: Good Will Hunting.
HC: What’s the farthest you’ve ever traveled?
JJ: For my birthday one year, we planned a family cruise which stopped in the Bahamas.
HC: What’s the best way to start the day?
JJ: The best way to start your day is by eating some fruit, getting fresh air, and watching Youtube.
HC: How do you relax after a hard day of work?
JJ: After a long day of work, I like to free write my thoughts so I can see them.
HC: Favorite sports team?
JJ: I do not have a favorite team, but I like the Celtics.
HC: Russell Westbrook vs Kevin Durant?
JJ: I would choose Westbrook because he is more powerful in my opinion.
HC: What are your thoughts on mental health issues
JJ: I feel that mental health is something that is overlooked and I think that the reason it is overlooked has to do with social media. Maybe if the Internet wasn’t as vital to people as it is now, we would become more important to one another. If we are going to use social media, we should use it to help not judge.
HC: What advice would you give to a person who feels they are at their lowest?
JJ: I would tell them that there is always someone lower than you. Also that there is someone looking up to you no matter what you have going on.
HC: What are some physical and mental health issues that you feel are present on campus?
JJ: Depression and anxiety are major issues on this campus and that is mainly because the culture here is weak, all there is here is envy. Hampton is Black suburbia what you see here you are not going to see anywhere else. There are people here wearing red bottoms that cannot even pay their rent nor say Louboutin.
HC: How should someone approach you if they have a crush on you?
JJ: Be honest do not beat around the bush. Just tell me your intentions because I am not going to guess. If I knew everybody that had a crush on me that would be zero fun.
HC: What do you like most about Hampton University and what do you feel can change?
JJ: Aside from the façade the waterfront is was I love most about HU. However, if I could change one thing it would be the dynamic of the curriculum. It’s very static, I feel like the classes are standard we need to have more contemporary courses. Give your students something to go to class for it is 2017 and this place is dull.
HC: Describe your personality and how you come off to people? / What makes you different from most people?
JJ: I am a very patient person I like to worry about myself before anyone else, so patience is a virtue to me. What makes me different from most people is my style, no one dresses like me.
HC: Have you ever experienced heartbreak if so how did you cope with it?
JJ: Yeah. I like to think of the situation as if I was getting fired it was not my first check and it will not be my last.
HC: What are your plans after graduation?
JJ: I want to travel most of Africa after graduation.
HC: What is the best life lesson your parents have taught you?
JJ: “Think before you do” because it is easy for me to overthink, which is why I “stay ten toed.”
Since Justin has no social media you cannot follow him on anything, but do not be afraid to say hello to him.
