Hampton Survival Guide: 10 things to make your Hampton Experience the bestÂ
Now that you are attending, or wanting to attend (hey baby suns) the illustrious Hampton University here are some rules that I’ve learned along the way. Nonetheless, always remember to have fun!
Rule #1 Pace your moneyÂ
There are many times you want to go out with your friends, buy a new outfit, or even buy food. Though yes you should do these things, there are times when you just need to save your money and try to find a free activity or even go thrift shopping if you want a new outfit.Â
Rule #2 Complete assignments ahead of timeÂ
Future you must follow this rule so that way you’re not stressed out at 11:30pm when your assignment is due at 11:59pm.
Rule #3 Join a club
Joining a club or an organization will get you out of the routine of doing school work and helps you meet new people you would not have met otherwise. For example, here at Her Campus I met Oliva. I would not have met her if not for Her Campus since she is a science major and I am a social science major.Â
Rule #4 Have a calendar
This can not be emphasized enough, PLAN PLAN PLAN. If you are a visual learner a calendar helps to visualize due dates and helps you to see what is upcoming.Â
Rule #5 Connect with professorsÂ
Yes, you may need them for a letter of recommendation, but also I found that when I learned more about a professor’s life it helps loosen the relationship. Â
Rule #6 Be willing to do stuff on your own
Being alone feels strange at first because being in college there is a lot of social interaction. However, being on your own can teach you more about yourself and can help you branch off with a new idea, project, group that truly fits you and not just the dynamic of a friendship or friend group.
Rule #7 Go to school events even the ones that may seem boring
Yes even the boring ones. They may offer FREE food, FREE shirts or Hampton gear.Â
Rule #8 Step outside your comfort zoneÂ
College and Hampton is about growing in the best you!
Rule #9 Do not stress over an assignment that is not due that night
Some of the best work comes after a goodnight’s sleep.
Rule #10 Do spontaneous things with your friends even if it’s just a random call
Sticking to a schedule is important, but also remember to live your life and have a good balance.
