The Greer Dawson Student Leadership Program host their “Skin Deep” Beauty and Health Symposium. The event included a panel as well as local vendors promoting their businesses and products.
The women of the panel were a mix of Hampton Biology professors, a Hampton Alumna who is a make up artists, a beautician, and Nutritionists with her own book. The women shared facts and figures about skin health, hair health, and fitness. After sharing facts about the body and health, the panelists answered audience’s questions. Questions about transitioning to natural hair, maintaining to get glowing skin, nutrition, and fitness regimens were the bulk of the questions. After the panel, audience members were able to visit each vendor’s booth.
Pretty Girls Sweat, which is an organization that encourages fitness for Black women had a both that sold t-shirts and sweatbands. There was a juicing company called Juice Bar Juices, which gave out samples of their all-natural juices. The sold regular juices for diets as well as pre and post work out juices. Modish Hair studio had a booth that sold hair products and also offered free consultation and straightening of hair. Other vendors included a weave company, a nail salon, and another hair salon.
Over all the Beauty Symposium event was a success. I personally learn about nutrition and how it affects the body. I plan on shaping my diet into a healthier one. I was very thank for all the vendors and panelists who came out and shared their knowledge with Hampton women.Â
Here at HerCampus HU we learned that beauty starts within with healthy eating and will emerge on the outside. Beauty starts also with a great attitude and personality.Â
