How to Implement Protection Against COVID-19 in Daily Life

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hampton U chapter.

Remember back in March, when everyone thought that COVID-19 would only last for two months? Well, it has been six months now, and it is about time for everyone to do their part in lowering the spread of COVID-19 so that maybe, just maybe, things can go back to normal by the end of 2021.

WEAR YOUR MASK!

This one really goes without saying. Please wear your mask. Having everyone else around you wear a mask does not excuse you from wearing one. Also, when you are outside and are not socially distanced, it would still be best to wear a mask.

Before Going Out, Make Sure Your Mask is Doing Its Job

Always make sure that your breath is not going out of the top of the mask. If your breath can go out then contaminated air can go in. Another thing that is helpful is, before going out, check the effectiveness of your mask by holding a lit lighter or flicker in front of your mask (not too close) and seeing if you can blow it out. If you can, that means you need an extra filter, and if you can’t, you are good to go.

Try to Always Have Disinfectant Wipes

Disinfectant wipes come in handy at home and when you are out and about. You should use disinfectant wipes when you go anywhere that you have to swipe or give someone your card, and when you get packages delivered to your house. Another thing they can be used for is when you go to the store and have to use a cart. It would be best to clean the cart before using it and afterwards so that any germs or bacteria that were on your hands don’t get passed along to the next person.

When You Have the Option, Use Soap and Water

Although hand sanitizer is the most convenient option, soap and water is the most effective option. That 99.99% on the front of the hand sanitizer does not round to 100, people! It is perfectly fine to have hand sanitizer in the car, but if you are in a building with a bathroom, please wash your hands and well.

Some extra tips:

If you decide that it would be best for you to wear gloves, when you go places, you should always take them off before getting back in your vehicle. Also, after going back home from anywhere you had to get out of the car and be there for awhile, you should at least change clothes before making contact with anything or anyone. Lastly, if you ever suspect that you have COVID-19, the best thing to do would be to get tested and stay at home until you have your results. If you just have to go out during that time period, you should try to put as much distance between yourself and others as you can
