On October 10th, Netflix finally released the reunion episode for Love is Blind’s season 5 cast. This season was truly a rollercoaster with exes being in the pods, viewers seeing only two couples reach the altar, and one couple succeeding in the experiment. There’s been reports of other couples that got engaged but weren’t filmed or sent to Mexico with the other couples and even speculation about not having an After the Altar episode.
Milton and Lydia
As the only couple who got married, Milton and Lydia are still madly in love as well as growing together. Milton stated how one major shift he experienced after the experiment was from working late to being in a place where he can’t wait to get home to his “Puerto Rican wife.” There were several moments throughout the reunion where Milton was receiving praise for his maturity despite being only 24 years old.
Izzy and Stacy
Izzy and Stacy were the other couple who made it to the altar, but didn’t tie the knot. Stacy was the one to say “I don’t,” due to concerns prompted by Izzy’s failure to discuss his financial situation. The two tried to date after the show, but Izzy felt like Stacy was trying to start from scratch and didn’t want to continue on that note. They have cultivated a friendship, which unintentionally resulted in a double date, but are dating new people.
Johnie and Chris
Johnie and Chris were a couple that didn’t get engaged in the pods, but ended up dating after seeing each other in the airport on the way home. However, the two are no longer together due to Chris’ ghosting and infidelity. Johnie stated that the weekend after the Houston party, her birthday, Chris left town to go to a wedding and didn’t reach out to her for 2 weeks. She later found out through a friend that Chris was seeing someone else, who he’s still with today. Chris apologized for his actions publicly and privately. About a week after Stacy broke up with him, Izzy and Johnie ended up kissing after a meet with the cast. They didn’t rekindle their connection any further, but the interaction shocked Stacy after how Izzy was so passionate about warning Chris about Johnie’s sneaky behavior in the pods at the Houston party.
Aaliyah and Uche
(*Deep sigh). Now for the portion that everyone was waiting for: the Aaliyah, Lydia, and Uche situation. Aaliyah chose to attend the reunion, but Uche declined. This gave her time to address the Lydia situation, share her side of the situation (since she left in the midst of filming), and give updates on her life. As we know, Lydia and Aaliyah became very close in the pods while Aaliyah established a connection with Uche. Viewers later found out that Lydia and Uche were in a relationship prior to the show. Once producers found out, they wanted to send both Lydia and Uche home, but let them stay on the terms that they didn’t discuss their past with the other participants and connected with other people. However, both parties ended up breaking this agreement with entirely too much detail. Aaliyah expressed that she felt Lydia didn’t respect her boundaries in the pods after she found out about their past relationship and claimed that Lydia told her off camera that she and Uche planned to come on the show together. Lydia responded that she and Uche only saw the casting call for the show with no confirmation that they both would be selected. In fact, Lydia even stated that Uche wouldn’t be there if she had the power. Aaliyah continued by revealing that Uche told several cast mates that she wasn’t the type of woman that he’d usually find attractive, but she’s luckily in a very happy relationship now. No one on the cast is close with Uche, with Izzy mentioning that he discovered Uche was talking bad about him to women in the pods. Milton especially clarified that he and Uche aren’t, never were, and never will be close after having a similar experience as Aaliyah in terms of Uche relaying too much information about Lydia. He also revealed that he and Lydia established the oil barrel emoji as their “safe word” for the Houston party because they anticipated an altercation that would then be with Uche and his “receipts.”
Taylor and JP
Taylor and JP got engaged in the pods and went to Mexico along with the two other couples. However, the two broke things off mid-trip due to JP’s drastic change in communication upon seeing Taylor for the first time. JP claims he was taken aback by Taylor’s “fake” appearance on the red carpet reveal and uncomfortable with the increase in camera-people in Mexico. Taylor tried her hardest to get JP to talk since she wanted the engagement to work (you know, the whole point of the show) but was receiving nothing in return, making it hard for her to even watch the show. Taylor expressed that she accepts JP’s apology, but hopes he doesn’t do it to another woman. Luckily, JP has the opportunity to write this wrong since he’s been dating a woman for about a year. Taylor currently is only seeing someone.
Is After the Altar on the Table?
The reunion ended with the cast playing a board game in which they picked songs they felt described their experience, Milton and Chris proclaimed their love for each other, and Aaliyah and JP admit that they wouldn’t hit on any of the cast members IRL. The Lacheys promoted the Love is Blind mobile game and then brought the episode to a close. Season five has been a very messy season with people debating whether or not there will be an After the Altar and who would participate other than Milton and Lydia. There’s even a couple who got engaged in the pods and were prepared for their red carpet reveal, only for production to tell them that they wouldn’t join the others in Mexico: Paige Tillman and Josh Simmons. The couple were disappointed that they didn’t get to continue filming, but they continued their relationship as fiancés outside of filming. Nothing has been confirmed in regards to season five having an After the Altar.
