Christmas is over and we’re in a whole new year, but that is not stopping Jack Frost from nipping at our noses! Winter is still here and it’s the perfect season for layers, layers, and more layers. I think the problem some fashionable people face during this time is creating a cute outfit while still being warm. And, I’m here to let you know it’s absolutely possible to be bundled up and stylish. Here are a few of my winter style essentials.
Trench coats
Honestly, I was surprised when trench coats came back in style. And, I was even more surprised when I found myself wanting one since my style is more streetwear. But, after seeing a few Pinterest pics of women pairing this preppy item with baggy clothing and sneakers, I was successfully persuaded to add one to my closet. Trench coats are also very versatile in the style itself because of I’ve seen some that were bright and colorful, leather, or wool. This coat style has proven itself to be one for any occasion and aesthetic.
Bulky statement scarves
With the drab and dull colors of the winter environment, a pop of color is a great accessory to lift your spirits and elevate your outfit. One scarf that is taking over the fashion world right now is the Acne Studios’ Mohair Checked scarf. However, the multi-colored scarf retails for $300 and as college students it’s not very likely we have that kind of money. So, you can find some dupes with the same bright colors and warmth but way cheaper at Urban Outfitters, Amazon, and Cider. Personally, I like to style my scarf in the ‘balacava’ style to give off a popstar kind of vibe but no matter how you wear your scarf, it’s sure to take any outfit to the next level.
Faux-Fur coats
Now I don’t own a fur coat myself, but it’s definitely on my list for my next thrift trip. This piece is not only chic, but so snuggly and soft. Not sure how to style it? Fashion icon, businesswoman, and award-winning singer, Rihanna will be able to solve that problem. Rihanna has styled fur coats, cropped and floor length, with a slip dress, baggy jeans and a graphic tee, and cream dress pants. She shows how versatile, like the trench coats, this new trend is. As I previously mentioned, the best place to look for a high-quality faux fur coat is the thrift store. But, if all of the fashion-obsessed thrifters in your area unfortunately beat you to the punch, you can look on Depop or other online thrift stores for more options.
