Ever since I was little, I have always LOVED scary movies. The suspense, adrenaline rush, and horror had me at the edge of my seat! From the Saw series to The Poltergeist to Annabelle, I have seen it all. However, there are a couple movies that will always be top 2 in my books: Insidious and The Conjuring II. With October just beginning, I thought it would be the perfect time to rewatch and review my favorite scary movies! And besides, what better way to kick off Spooky Season?Ā Ā

InsidiousĀ – The first movie to this chilling series gives us suspense, jump scares, and terror all in one. As the movie opens, the Lambert family is moving into a new home. It is not too long until the mother begins to hear distorted voices on the baby monitor and finds books randomly scattered on the ground. As the plot continues, their oldest child, Dalton, goes into a coma after falling off a ladder in the attic. However, when at the hospital, the brain scan shows no injuries! The Lambert family decides to move houses, but the paranormal activity doesn’t stop there! The mother begins to see little children dancing around the house to her record player. How spooky is that!? The family brings in a psychic who reveals that Dalton has been astral-projected into another world where evil spirits are trying to latch onto him for life. Now, this next part really spooked me out. The father volunteers himself to enter the spirit world and immediately becomes surrounded by scary bridesmaids spirits asking āHave you seen my son?ā. No one answers and the subtle, haunting continues to build suspense. After finding his son and returning back to the real world, the psychic notices that something is off. She snaps a picture of the father and what she sees will send CHILLS down your spine. Try to imagine a 6 foot bridesmaid, dressed in all black, with hollow eyes and white, pasty skin. Yeah…scary right? This movie will definitely keep you up at night!

Conjuring IIĀ – Now, this movie really gives me the creeps. First, a movie that starts with āBased On True Eventsā will always catch my attention. Second, this is another film where a family movies into a new house and starts experiencing paranormal activity. You would think they learned their lesson, right? However, this movie is only slightly different from Insidious. The family has a dog and it instantly senses the spooky vibes in the house, and refuses to go inside. Within the next few days, the dog is found dead, wrapped in its leash. This is only one of many scary occurrences that happen. The children discover a chamber at the bottom of the house and start to hear random clapping noises. As the movie continues, one of the sisters begins to sleep walk while climbing on dressers and continuously banging her head against the wall. Ouch! The mother notices bruises on her arms and legs, and ā¦ After much debate, the family invites Ed and Lorainne Warren to their home, who are known as notorious ghostbusters. The scariest part about this is, the mother is already possessed by a spirit (hence the bruises all over her body). Ed and Lorraine use an exorcist to ward off the evil and this is when things get really creepy. I donāt know about you, but seeing a demon come out the mouth of someoneās body is extremely unsettling. āThe Conjuring IIā is one of my favorite scary movies of all time and I guarantee it will leave you shaking in your boots!
After much evaluation, I think my favorite out of my top 2 scary movies isā¦ INSIDIOUS! There is not a moment in that movie where I know what will happen next. The suspense is gut wrenching, and even I will admit that I have to close my eyes at some parts. The subtle paranormal activity helps build up the plot and keeps my eyes hooked to the screen. Not to mention, the jump scares are crazy! All in all, I definitely recommend these scary movies, especially for Spooky Season. Which movie do you think is more chilling to the bones?Ā
