Mental health is something that we face everyday and having healthy ways to cope with life is extremely important. There are many ways to cope with the everyday stress of life, but I believe music is the ultimate therapy. For every single situation that happens on this rollercoaster of life there is a song that describes what you’re going through and how you feel.
Having a playlist with some of your “go-to” songs are essential to making it through those rough days. Music plays as a mediator, a motivator and a therapist. When an artist is speaking exactly how you feel it lets you know that it’s not the end of the world and that it is just not happening to you. Having this playlist is a way to keep you grounded and focused on what is at hand rather than letting your thoughts get the best of you.
Â
To make this playlist there are a few things to keep in mind.
Â
Include your “Happy Songs”
These are the songs that as soon as it begins to play it takes you back to a time where life seemed perfect or you were surrounded by the ones you loved having a good time.
Â
Include the songs that motivate you
This is where you put the songs that make you want to get up and be productive. The most important thing when making this playlist is to have a BALANCE of songs that make you want to get up and the songs that let you be in your feelings for a little. Too much of either one is not going to help.
Â
Sappy Songs
The reason you’re listening to this playlist is probably because life is hitting you pretty hard. It is okay to listen to your favorite sappy songs for a while, but not too long because you’ll end up worse than how you were before you started.
Â
Boss Up
Make sure to include your songs that make you feel on top of the world. Whether it’s Meek Mill, Beyoncé or City Girls it MUST be on this playlist to make it complete.
These are just a few tips to make your playlist to help get you through the ups and downs that we face while trying to figure out this thing called life. Here is a link to my personal playlist that I have started. You can use this a starter guide to making your own. It will be updated regularly.
