Chloe Volkwein ’17

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Harvard chapter.

To kick off a new semester of campus celebrities, we’re starting with the ladies that make Her Campus Harvard run smoothly (and fabulously) behind-the-scenes. This week, meet the collegiette responsible for bringing HC Harvard to every newsfeed on campus and keeping readers updated on all the latest news, trends, and contests featured on our site. Allow us to introduce our new Public Relations Director, Chloe Volkwein!

Tell us the basics about yourself: house, year, concentration, and extracurriculars!

I’m a sophomore in Eliot house and I’m concentrating in English. I’ve always loved singing and I sing in the Radcliffe Choral Society, an all-female choir. I’m in Alpha Phi, which has been an overall amazing experience, and I volunteer for a couple of other organizations (and I write for Her Campus!).

What’s your favorite activity at Harvard? What have you most enjoyed about your involvement with it?

My favorite activity at Harvard so far has definitely been choir!  Our concerts are great opportunities to work toward a goal and collaborate with people who share a passion for music.  We go on tours and retreats and have a ton of bonding time, which I love. There are also so many opportunities for leadership, since RCS is entirely student-run. I was able to be on the executive committee as a freshman last year and it taught me a lot about running a non-profit organization.

Describe your role as Public Relations Director of Her Campus Harvard. What are you hoping to bring to the magazine this semester?

As PR Director of Her Campus Harvard, I’m in charge of our chapter’s social media accounts. I post about exciting things happening on campus and publicize interesting articles from our chapter and Her Campus more broadly. This semester I’m hoping to increase HC’s presence at Harvard and get people even more excited about our content (or applying to write for us!).

What were you up to this summer? Any interesting stories?

This summer I was back at home working as a camp counselor, and at the end of the summer I went to Greece and Turkey with my family.  We visited my great-grandmother’s hometown outside of Sparta and my grandmother met one of her first cousins there for the first time.  When I got back to campus I went to Boston Calling with a few friends and when we had to evacuate because of the storm we ran to a hotel nearby and crashed a wedding while we waited for the concert to start up again.

What are you most excited about this semester?

I’m really excited about getting more involved with Alpha Phi this year.  I’m going to help plan activities and participate in a ton of awesome philanthropy events.  I’m especially excited for the spring, when we’re going to have our Red Dress event to benefit research for women’s heart health. And I’m looking forward to bonding even more with my sisters.

Who do you consider a role model? Why?

J. K. Rowling (author of the Harry Potter series, some of my favorite books of all time) is one of my biggest role models.  I think her success story is so inspirational, especially since I love to write and want to incorporate writing into my career after college.  She’s incredibly philanthropic as well, which is something I admire.

What do you hope to accomplish after graduation?

I’m not entirely sure what I want to do after graduation, but I know that I want to write and I want to travel.  Maybe I’ll write books or work as a screenwriter for a TV show.  My dream job would be to work on scripts for Disney movies like Frozen or Tangled.  I want to help people and be a positive force in the world in any way I can, whether through volunteering and charity work or by writing books like Harry Potter that are fun and inspire people.  I hope to somehow leave the world a better place than I found it.
