Coffee. Chocolate pudding. Snickerdoodles. Pink Poptart sprinkles. No this is not my planned diet during finals but rather a flavor of ice cream. A special contest winning flavor coincided to the premiere of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life being released on Netflix on Friday. I am not Super Fan #1 of the Gilmore Girls. Heck I’m not even in the top 1000. But there is one thing I am very good at, eating ice cream especially from one of my favorite ice cream places in Brooklyn; Ample Hills. This is an ice cream store my freshman proctor recommended to me. This is an ice cream store whose recipe book I received as a present from a family friend. And this of course, is an ice cream beloved by Oprah. So if there is any chance to get close to one such as Oprah, I am just going to do it. So the flavor: “They Scoop Gilmores, Don’t They?” The challenge: Eat it in addition to all the extra Thanksgiving specials I had to face.
Amongst the many wonderfully named flavors like The Munchies, Salted Crack Caramel, and Snap Mallow Pop, I find many clues of the weighty presence of Gilmore Girls fever. A basket of free Red Vines over here. Quotes from Stars Hollow over there. And a Netflix watch party filled with candy and cute favors. But then it came to tasting the actual ice cream.

On first glance, the ice cream is unassuming, chocolate ice cream with pink flecks. But at first taste, you get so much. The coffee reminds one of a rush that comes with spontaneous dialogue, sped up words and countless bad decisions and the edge of anticipation of the final four words of the series. The chocolate pudding, snickerdoodles, and pink Poptart sprinkles is home, Friday family dinner and the sweet choice between Logan, Jess and Dean. And when you finish eating it, you feel sad like when you remember you have to decide between Logan, Jess or Dean.

In other words, a great choice to binge with on Netflix and reminisce about when times were simpler. The flavor is still in stock so you can go visit or ship it out if you want it.
