5 Ways to Snag a Cutie as told by Comedians Jo Koy and James Ponce

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hawaii chapter.

So you’re on a date with your version of Chad Hamilton and suddenly, you panic. What do I do? What do I say? Where are we going? A million questions fly through your head and instead of enjoying your company, you’ve turned into a nervous wreck. If you don’t want a disaster date, keep these five tips in mind from comedians Jo Koy and James Ponce, and you’ll have Chad Hamilton in the palm of your hand.

1)   Act like you like what he likes (not really).

“That includes break dancing, video games, and…blow jobs,” says James Ponce as Jo Koy nods in agreement. Koy pipes in with, “Duh, even when I’m bored.” Then, Ponce laughs and says to do quite the opposite because it isn’t attractive when you feign interest to impress somebody. “Be genuine,” he says.

2)   Try everything.

Koy says, “Just try it ONCE, just put it in your mouth and try it…I’m talking about food!” Both comedians agree that you shouldn’t be the girl that won’t even try shrimp because it “just looks fishy.” If you end up really disliking shrimp, then let it be, your date shouldn’t judge you for having an opinion.

3)   Take initiative.

If your date asks you a question like “What movie do you want to see?” Answer with the movie you want to see, not, “I don’t know, what do you want to see?” Ponce says it’s sexy when a girl takes initiative but “don’t be overbearing.” Nobody on a date should demand anything from the other person.

4)   Take care of your appearance.

“I like a girl that really knows how to dress,” Koy states. “That includes knowing how to dress for an occasion.” Both comedians agree that you shouldn’t wear six-inch heels to a basketball game nor should you wear sneakers to a formal event. If you dress well, it shows you know how to take care of yourself.

5)   Don’t be negative.

“I hate the Debby Downers.” Koy says. If you’re uncomfortable on your date, don’t turn into the Evil Queen and complain, instead, share your feelings and change your plans. If you’re date is upset that you don’t want to do something, then they aren’t worth wasting time on.
