How My Therapist Taught Me the Divinity In Being a Woman

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hawaii chapter.

I have been in therapy since I was in 8th grade. I have always loved it but I never truly found a therapist that I connected with until my freshman year of college. When I moved to Hawaii I carried a lot of pain and insecurities with me from my hometown and high school. I thought I was completely worthless of being loved, deserved the least from anyone and I was full of a lot hate. When I met my therapist in Hawaii, my life changed. She was amazing. She taught me how divine women are, that we are badasses, goddesses. She was like my mom on the island and I looked up to her so much. I absorbed everything she said. I was in awe of the way she viewed the world. So strong, independent. She was there for me when I hit rock bottom. If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be the young woman I am today. I give her all the credit for helping me. I wish everyone could have an inspiring woman like her in their lives, but maybe not. I want to share my experiences in this article and I hope you learn a little bit about how I view the world as a woman.

This life is YOURS and you should be fearless. Do everything you want to do. Women are shoved into a little box but it’s 2021 and that is no longer happening. Dream big and blur out the haters.

1. Just f*cking do it

Do you want to be a doctor? Go do it.

Do you want to be a trophy wife? Go do it.

Do you want to date someone 13 years older than you? Who cares, it’s your life.

2. Your body is your temple, don’t let anyone f*ck with your energy

Cut the toxic people out of your life. Your friends should be your friends. Girls do not let other girls down. Relationships are supposed to be positive and nurturing.

3. He is just another boy, he only thinks with his p*nis

I was in the worst relationship that made me sad all the time. She reminded me every time we met that I was worthy. She reminded me that college boys are immature and they do not mature at the same rate as females.

4. You do not have to be your family’s trauma

I grew up with a lot of trauma throughout my life that roots from both sides of my family. I can’t stress how much my family’s trauma shaped me to be a bad, toxic person. She helped me take those experiences and put them toward bettering myself. Your family may have poor traits but they are human, and you are carving your own path.

5. Love your self every day

6. There are reliable people and trustworthy people, then there are users.

There is a difference between whether someone is trustworthy or not. They may not be trustworthy, but they could be reliable. Differentiate the people and categorize them so you are not constantly disappointed by someone who lies in different categories.

7. Be young

Marriage is cool, but you are so young. You are only this young once in your life.

8. Don’t date athletes

They are just players. I am not going any further to explain this lol.

9. Feeling depressed? Take the mental health day

Go be depressed on the beach, at least you’ll get a tan and be able to meditate.

10. Just simply, I mean word for word, “stop giving a fuck”

Just brush off what other people have to say. They are NOT you.

11. Delete social media or at least take a break

Social media is so toxic for me. It actually makes me sad.

12. Just be you. Don’t be someone else.

There are many ways to feel divine. To me, it’s being who I want to be and that’s being different from everyone else. Everything I do is for me. I feel good, I am only in my 20s once. I like having a personality than following the latest trend. I love the feeling of nature and being free. I love life because my therapist taught me life is beautiful and being a woman is beautiful.

Live fearlessly.
