Modern-Day Fairytales: Tinderellas looking for her Tinderfellas.
Sometimes it seems as if everyone has a “Netflix and Chill” partner, when in reality, current generations seem to be dating less and less. Personally, I believe this dry spell is due to the fact that there are so many high expectations from people on Instagram and other media outlets. Because we are constantly hit with the broadcasting of Victoria Secret models and famous YouTubers, it can be really hard to stop comparing yourselves the edited pics. Not to mention, and don’t deny it, you spend 90% of your day on your phone. Now, don’t get me wrong, I am all for women knowing their worth and am also guilty of using my phone as a buffer to avoid actual human interaction, but let’s get back to reality real quick and look at the facts.
When is the last time you had a random guy come up to you and compliment you without  immediately turning to your friend and whispering, “Ew omg such a creep.” I’ve done it plenty of times! Not every guy that talks to you in the cafeteria is a serial killer; maybe if you said “Hi” back and had a conversation, you could score yourself a date (or free dinner). It could be fun trying to meet someone organically, rather than using Tinder.
You’re (probably) not Alexis Ren, and that’s okay! Especially living in Hawaii, it’s so hard not to compare yourself to every girl in a bikini picture. Unrealistic expectations for yourself are going to kill your self-confidence, which can lead to you not even wanting to try dating. There will always be a girl that is prettier, thinner, more cultured, or well traveled, but don’t let that hinder you from finding your own love!
He may not be Jay Alvarrez, and you’re just going to have to learn how to live with that. Constantly seeing all of these instagram couples can also make you want to steer away from men that don’t have six packs and luscious blue eyes! But one day when Instagram isn’t a thing, and the feeds have run dry, you’re going to be way happier with a real man who treats you like a queen because you deserve is, not so you can score some extra re-tweets.
All and all, social media isn’t so bad and can be a good way to share your life with friends and family that are far away. However, sometimes it’s nice to live in the moment, send your mister a handwritten letter, or actually talk that cute guy in your chem lab. Spend your post Valentine’s Day feels on some quality, real life interactions and try living in the moment, not a story.
