3 Food Festivals to Visit in Helsinki This Spring

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

What’s more fun than eating and drinking, and then wandering around a little, and then eating and drinking again? Not many things, we think. Three different food-related festivals where you can do just that will be organized in Helsinki during April and May. There will definitely be something for everyone, so be sure to visit at least one of these:

1. Street Food Carnival 2017.

21.4.-22.4., Kansalaistori Square

For one weekend, Helsinki Street Food Carnival brings dozens of prestigious street food vendors to Kansalaistori Square between the Music Centre and Museum of Contemporary Art Kiasma. The entrance is free, and there is a lot of variety in foods: tacos, fish and chips, soup, barbeque, thai food, sausages… you name it, the carnival probably has it. What a great opportunity to try something new, and (hopefully) enjoy nice Spring weather!

2. Helsinki Coffee Festival 2017.

21.4.-23.4., Cable Factory

If you are craving for some quality coffee after having eaten all that delicious street food in Street Food Carnival, you are in luck: Helsinki Coffee Festival will be arranged the same weekend in Cable Factory (Kaapelitehdas). It’s the biggest coffee festival in the Nordic countries, and with the admission ticket (12-30 euros, depending on how long you are going to stay) you can taste different kinds of coffees from around the world and learn new coffee-related things from interviews and workshops. A must for every hardcore coffee-lover!

3. Restaurant Day.

20.5., all around Helsinki (and Finland!)

After a year-long break, Restaurant Day is back. Yay! This means that for one Saturday in May, anyone can set up their own restaurant, so there will be all sorts of (mostly amateur) food stalls all around Finland. Helsinki has been crowded with food stalls on previous Restaurant Days, and it’s always exciting to wander around the city when you never know what kind of food stall/pop-up cafe/juice bar you might meet next.
