Forget coffee; here are the best teas you should try!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Helsinki chapter.

I am an avid tea lover. I drink tea at least twice a day, in the morning and in the evening. Sometimes I’ll also have afternoon tea. Tea is an amazing drink. There are so many kinds (almost all of which are delicious), it is healthy, it is relatively cheap… What else could you want!? I drink pretty much any tea I can get my hands on and I have a pretty big tea collection if I do say so myself. I don’t really know that much about tea, though. There are some people who are very specific about how hot their water is when they add the tea to it, for example. I don’t really care much about that stuff, I just really enjoy drinking tea. I thought it would be fun to make a list of my favourite teas and share it with you. Again, I am no expert but I do have years and years of experience with drinking tea! These teas might not be for everyone but I do recommend trying them out, you might be positively surprised!

  1. Rosehip

This kind of tea is quite sweet. I usually add honey or sugar to my tea but not this one. You don’t want to keep the tea bag in the water for too long, the tea quickly becomes almost too sweet. This kind of tea is great for when you’re craving something sweet, especially in the evening!

  1. Camomile

I love drinking this one before bed! It’s very soothing and has a wonderful, calming smell! I like to add honey to this one for a bit of added sweetness because it is not too sweet on its own. This one might turn a little bitter if you keep the tea bag on for too long, so don’t forget to take it off after a few minutes!

  1. English breakfast

This one’s a classic. Like the name says, you should have it with breakfast (though I’ve also had it once or twice in the evening… Shhhh, don’t tell anyone!). You are supposed to have this one with sugar and milk, I like mine with oat milk. The taste is very soft and rich and honestly just great. There’s a reason why this tea is so popular.

  1. Peppermint

This one is a bit more sharp in its taste, if that is something you can say. I like to have it in the morning because it kind of wakes me up and gets me ready for the new day ahead. This one also smells lovely and I like the bright green colour, it’s almost like poison but much tastier. If I add sugar to this one, I’ll add only a little bit so that it does not cover the natural taste of the tea.

  1. Fruit selection

This is another sweet one so I drink it without any sugar or honey as well. The fruity taste is great for either morning or evening, whichever you prefer. This one also usually has a rich, red colour. In addition to being sweet, the taste is very fresh and natural and just delicious in every way.

  1. Rooibos

This is a kind of tea rather than a specific taste. I added this to the list for the people who are sensitive to caffeine. Most teas have caffeine in them so people who are sensitive to caffeine can’t drink them in the evening. Rooibos, however, does not have any caffeine in it. There are tons of different taste options so there is definitely something for everyone!
