5 Top Date Spots Around Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at High Point chapter.

One of the constant struggles for college students that are in relationships is finding good places to go on a Friday night date.  There are numerous dining options on High Point’s campus, but sometimes you just want to get out of the school environment and go to a real restaurant to have a nice meal with your significant other.  Here are my top five date locations in the High Point city (and they’re not expensive either!):

1.) Penny Path Crepes

This is the cutest little place in the city, in my opinion.  Family owned and operated, Penny Path is a quaint little shop right in downtown High Point that is so popular you will find yourself standing because there’s so many people there on Sunday afternoons.  They make the best crepes I have ever had.  You can choose from either a savory or sweet menu.  The options are endless—pizza crepe, Brie cheese crepe, Nutella/banana/strawberry crepe, pumpkin spice crepe.  It’s the most perfect, unique datespot for those weekend afternoons.

2.) Ham’s Restaurant

There’s this plaza only 15 minutes from campus called the Palladium that is your one-stop to so many restaurants and dessert shops.  It even has a cute movie theater!  The options are endless: Olive Garden, Buffalo Wild Wings, Moe’s, Coldstone, Mad Greek Grill, and so many more.  One of my personal favorites is Ham’s Restaurant.  This is a cute little southern-style restaurant that’s cheap and quick.  It’s super casual too, so you could go right after class.  Their cheeseburgers and fries are my favorite, but they have other options like bison burgers, wings, and wraps.

3.) DeBeen Espresso

DeBeen is seriously the best little coffee shop/café.  It’s super cute and filled with tons of quirky furniture.  They have endless options for coffee, lattes, mochas, and even frozen coffee drinks.  They even have great vegan desserts and pastries.

4.) Cookout

For those of you not from the south, you’re probably not too familiar with Cookout.  It’s a fast food chain that’s super cheap and super fast.  I’m not the biggest fan of the food, but the one item on their menu that keeps people coming is their milkshakes.  They have so many different flavors, and they’re CHEAP, too.  My favorite is the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup flavor.

5.) 1924 Prime Steakhouse

One of the many amazing things about High Point is that we have a fancy steakhouse on campus—and each meal there only costs one magic meal.  That’s right: a $50 steakhouse dinner containing an starter, an entrée, and a dessert is only one magic meal which, if you’re unfamiliar with HPU’s dining system, is one out of seven separate meals you can use weekly.  Prime is the perfect place to go on a date because it’s on campus, it’s part of the meal plan, and anyone can make reservations.  Students at High Point love to get dressed up and go to dinner at Prime because it takes us out of the college environment for a few hours and makes us feel like fancy adults.
