Cell phones have become an absolute necessity in everyday life, especially for college students. We’re always on the go, whether it be class, work, an internship— there’s always something a college student needs to be updated on.

Here on Hofstra’s campus, there are so many things going on campus every day, it’s hard to keep track of everything. Here are my 10 apps that every Hofstra student needs to keep their day going as smoothly as possible.

1. GroupMe

Whether you’re looking to schedule a time with your group for a class project, keep members of your club or organization updated, or even just scheduling dinner with friends, GroupMe is the app for you. GroupMe is the easiest way for group texting; no more annoyances if one person doesn’t have an iPhone, etc. What makes it even better— GroupMe is available on iPhone AND Android! Talk about a life saver.

2. Google Drive

If you don’t know what Google Drive is . . . just how? Every college student should use Google Drive as an easy way to keep every paper, assignment, and project organized for class. Now, you never have to worry about losing a single assignment ever again. With the Google Drive app, you can access your papers on the go, even when you can’t be at your laptop.

3. Gmail

As Hofstra students, our Pride emails are the way we communicate with our professors the most. Whether you need to find an update from Blackboard or that glorious early morning email that your class got canceled, Gmail is an absolute must have.

4. MyFitnessPal

Okay, hear me out— while Hofstra has definitely updated it’s dining options, healthy eating on any college campus is not easy in the slightest. MyFitnessPal is an easy app that lets you input all of your meals, snacks, water intake, and any exercise you complete during your day to help you keep you healthy and happy during your college career.

5. Spotify

Who doesn’t love music? Whether it’s walking from Colonial Square all the way to Breslin or even just the short walk from CV Starr to Au Bon Pain, we all need that time to listen to music and chill out for a moment. We deserve time to forget about any stresses we might have had from our day.

6. Weather Channel

Trust me on this one— you absolutely need to stay updated on what the weather is supposed to be like every day. You really don’t want to be in your 2:20 math class in Breslin and suddenly have a torrential downpour occur 10 minutes before you have to be at your next class in Hagedorn.

7. Venmo

Venmo has become to the new go-to way to pay people back, pay dues for your club, etc. If you never carry cash like most college students, Venmo is the app for you.

8. Grubhub

Like I said before, while Hofstra has definitely upped it’s dining options, we all get sick of eating campus food at some point. Grubhub is a nice, easy way to get that late night Buffalo Wild Wings without even leaving the comfort of your own residence hall.

9. Uber

I’ll be the first to say it, the Hofstra shuttle doesn’t always cut it. The shuttle has some weird hours, and only runs on the weekends and Wednesday nights. What should I do when I suddenly need So Delicious Cookie Dough Ice Cream at 9pm and Dutch doesn’t have it? Uber is the easiest way to get to places you need to go when the shuttle, or any of your friends who have cars, can’t help you out or come to your rescue.

10. MyHofstra

Last but not least, you have to have to have to have the MyHofstra app. The portal is an absolute must to keep track of all of your grades, emails, jobs, what textbooks you need, and so much more.

All of these apps will keep us Hofstra students organized, in check, and will help us have our greatest semester yet.
