2018 seemed to be the year of celebrity engagements, and 2019 is following suit. First came the surprising engagement between “7 Rings” singer Ariana Grande and comedian Pete Davidson, followed by an even more surprising engagement and quickly followed marriage between Justin Bieber and model Hailey Baldwin. When fans thought they had seen everything, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra stunned us all with their engagement. The latest celebrity engagement has Katy Perry an Orlando Bloom planning their walk down the aisle, who have been together since 2016.
While some may think celebrities go all out with their engagements, a lot of them were very private and intimate. Let’s take a look at how some of our favorite celebrities said “I do” over the last year.
Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin
As much as it may break our tween hearts, Justin Bieber has been officially off the market since July of 2018, getting married in a NYC courthouse to fiancé Hailey Baldwin shortly after he popped the question. While Bieber has been known to randomly show his affection for his wife through a public serenade, the actual question was not a big show. He simply asked her while they were in the Bahamas together on vacation. She told Coveteur that it was “probably the biggest OMG moment of the year.”
Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom
This hot couple is the latest to get engaged. Bloom popped the question while on a Valentine’s Day date, and Perry’s mom helped break the news on Facebook. While the actual engagement was intimate, Bloom had plans to celebrate: with a party of about 30 of their closest friends in a private penthouse in Los Angeles decorated with heart-shaped balloons. They have each confirmed the engagement on their Instagram accounts.
Pete Davidson and Ariana Grande
While this whirlwind romance is long gone, this may top the list as the most casual celebrity engagement. The Saturday Night Live star opened up to Vogue about the seemingly spontaneous engagement: “We were in bed hanging, after watching a movie. I was like, ‘Will you marry me?’ It was really dope.”
Chance the Rapper and Kirsten Coley
The rapper proposed to his now-fiancé in a backyard barbeque surrounded by friends and family.
Karlie Kloss and Joshua Kushner
While nothing has been confirmed by their representatives, it has been reported that the couple got engaged in a private location in upstate New York. They followed the trend with a surprise wedding last October.
There are many seemingly solid celebrity relationships right now, such as Taylor Swift and her boyfriend of two years, actor Joe Alwyn. Only time will tell before the next celebrity engagement or secret marriage is revealed.
