How to Celebrate Thanksgiving in a Dorm Room

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

It’s hard being at school during the holiday season but why not bring the holiday season to school this Thanksgiving? Or even if you are going home for the holiday season, why not host a pre-Thanksgiving dinner or a Friendsgiving? I remember during my freshman year at Hofstra University, my friends and I made a small Thanksgiving dinner and watched a movie. So here’s some things to consider before your holiday dinner…

Equipment: Basically, you need a microwave to cook everything but don’t forget to get some large mixing bowls, measuring cups and silverware. Most of this cooking equipment can be found in your friends’ rooms or the Dollar Store or Target.

Grocery Shopping: Have all of your friends pick out their favorite Thanksgiving food and bring the ingredients to make it all together. Another idea is to go to the local grocery store with your friends before the dinner and split the cost. Come up with a menu and shopping list before you go!

Cooking: Give yourself enough time for cooking and have some extra hands during this step to make it less stressful and more fun! Once everything is being cooked start relaxing with a glass of wine and start setting up the table. While eating dinner, have the dessert cooking during this time.

Enjoy your Friendsgiving dinner in the dorm!
