Why Every Woman Should Consider Dating an Older Man

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

There comes a time in every woman’s life when she needs a little excitement. She needs something different—something fun, fresh and worry-free. Luckily for us, qualities like these can all be found in one place: an older man.

Dating can be tough, especially when you’re still involved in or recently graduated college. There isn’t any reason to limit yourself to what you can find on campus and (if I’m being completely honest) there definitely isn’t enough time in the day to deal with the drama that comes along with dating boys around your age. Let’s face it—they can sometimes be VERY a little immature.

So, the next time you’re out looking for a new beau, consider dating an older man. Though they might have a different level of baggage than the boys you’re hanging around on a day-to-day basis, I assure you that the perks highly outweigh the complications.

As cliché as it may sound, he *probably* has his stuff together

If you’re looking for a no-fuss relationship, dating an older man is right up your alley. Whether it comes to having a career in place (instead of a temporary job) or knowing just how to engage with your parents in a fancy setting, he probably knows what he’s doing. It comes from the great amount of life experience he’s already gotten—and it really comes in handy.

He’s definitely done playing games

Oh, college boys. We love you, but we really don’t. How hard is it to find a younger guy that doesn’t want to party it up all night—every night—with his boys or go around hooking-up with as many girls as he can? Well, pretty damn near impossible on a college campus. Older men have already been there, done that. Most of them are over the whole one-night stand thing and are ready to buckle down. If you want commitment, you’ll find it in an older man.

Roommates? He has none!

One of the best things about dating a man that’s older than you is he probably has his own apartment, and to be honest—it’s probably WAY NICER than your dorm room. Privacy = check.

He’ll appreciate you in ways younger men just don’t.

This kind of ties into the whole “older men are over one-night stands” point I made earlier. Now, I know these points don’t necessarily apply to ~every~ older gentleman out there, but they are accurate for the majority. If you’re looking for someone to give you their undivided time, love and attention, try going this route.

He knows what he likes (YOU!)

Regardless of what your parents might have you believe, some older men really are into you for you (not just your young appearance). Get to know your man before you commit and let him see your true colors. If he genuinely likes you, he’ll let you know right away!

Your dates will actually be dates…

No more dollar menu dates!!! Can I get an AMEN!? Seriously, ladies, if you like the idea of being wined and dined, older men are the ones for you. They probably won’t mind fronting the bill either.

Whatever you’re dealing with, he’s probably already been through.

Life experience—he’s got it. Instead of leaving you to solve your problems on your own, older men are more likely to help you get through them than younger men. They know what you’re going through and that means they know how to help you get out of it. Older men won’t leave you to deal with your issues on your own. They’ll support you in every step of the way.

Better companion, better sex, better… everything.

Older men are just better. Better, better, better—all the way around. As I said before, I can’t speak for ~every~ older man on the planet, but these points are true for the most part. Women are scientifically proven to mature faster than men, so why not date someone on the same wavelength as you? (AKA—an older man). You’ll love it, he’ll love it and there’s no harm in giving it a shot at least once in your life!

So, with the help of the extremely handsome Jacob Black from Twilight (~*SWOON*~), I leave you with these amazing words of encouragement:

Just a college girl with a love of all animals, delicious food and *super* sappy love stories. You can probably find me in bed binge-watching crime shows on Netflix with a tub of Ben & Jerry's on hand. Phish Food, of course!HCHofstra Social Media Editor (Twitter) and Contributing Writer.
