This past weekend, my mom came down for a visit and we took a trip to Michaels. I’d been wanting to do this for a while, but with the spring semester freshly underway and the weather beginning to turn (aside from the rogue snowstorm), I thought that it was the perfect time to dive into a new crafting hobby. Since I was little, I’ve loved all sorts of arts and crafts from painting to pottery to sketching. A few months ago, my friends and I saw a Tik Tok on collage scrapbooking and I was immediately hooked.Â
I don’t remember the account I first saw it on, but essentially each video featured a themed collage on a singular page in a sketchbook. These themes were each an aesthetic based off of a color, animal, place, or texture and each were made from mixed media. The artist would use stickers, different types of paper, wax seals, tapes, stamps, and other mediums to assemble their collage. As I said, I love experimenting with different types of art, and this new technique seemed like the perfect way to test out new styles while still bringing them all together to form a comprehensive collage. Also, while I have collaged before (although admittedly only with magazine cutouts), I had never compiled a sort of scrapbook of the different pieces.Â
At Michaels, I got stamps, ink, a distressing brush, washi and doubled sided tape, a variety of stickers, markers, and paper of assorted colors, textures, and designs along with a paper cutter. I also got a case that fits all these materials inside of it perfectly to complete the aesthetic. I am so excited to start this new hobby and can’t wait to eventually see the completed scrapbook!
