As a Michigan native living in Massachusetts, it is always a hassle trying to get home. Plane tickets have skyrocketed, so I made the bold decision to make the eleven-hour drive myself. This trip involves a strip of 270 miles straight through New York, a trek through the Canadian border, and many gas station stops. While I always love a good road trip, doing this drive by myself was not ideal. Even so, I ended up having a blast on my drive. Here are some tips and tricks:
Treat yourself to as many coffee stops as you need. On my drive, I went through three coffees and two teas. You can have fun with it too. For example, I got my coffee from different places each time and made sure to try something new from each place.
A solid playlist is essential for a road trip! I pulled songs from all genres to craft the perfect no-skips playlist. The key to a long playlist is having songs from various genres so you do not get sick of the same songs. This is also a great time to catch up with people you have not seen for a while–or your mom. While making the drive I talked to my mom and sister for an hour which made the drive fly by.
A personal favorite road trip activity of mine is the ABC game. You have to find words that start with each letter of the alphabet, in order, on different billboards or signs. This game is often played with two people, but it is just as fun by yourself.
My final tip for making a long road trip is to have all of the snack essentials. At minimum you need something salty, sweet, and sour. My gas station go-to is salt and vinegar kettle chips or chex-mix, muddy buddies–aka puppy chow–and Trolli sour gummy worms.Â
Good luck on your drive!
