As the weather grows colder and finals slowly approach us, it can become impossible to keep up a motivating mindset. Days get shorter, nights get longer and we find ourselves wishing our week’s away. Although we all love an eventful weekend, I find it discouraging to always wish my week ended before it started. My school-work piles up weekly, making my only priority sleep. However, over these past couple of weeks, I have attempted to brighten my weeks, alongside my weekends. Below, I will share some of the activities and daily affirmations that allow my weeks to feel brighter!
- Morning workouts, dreadful but doable. I am an advocate for finding a time in the day to incorporate activity, however, I find the morning to be the most beneficial. Waking up with a clear mindset and endearing workout makes me feel like I can accomplish almost anything throughout my day.Â
- Mid-day coffee breaks; Studying in Cool Beans: As college students struggling to find quiet to study, I can understand why this one may be confusing. Most of my friends are shocked at my eagerness to study and or look over my weekly to-do’s in such a busy setting. However, it is this exact business that fuels my creativity and thinking skills. Sitting with a coffee and pastry in Cool Beans keeps me centered around my school work, but allows me to feel a sense of relief. Also, it never hurts to have a coffee date with a friend in between classes!
- Afternoon walks: My friend Hannah, fellow Her Campus member and I make it a weekly goal to walk the track and or path behind campus. While this usually does not act as our daily workout, it is our time to decompress and forget about our responsibilities. Getting fresh air and engaging in stimulating conversations reminds me that my week includes more than just academic responsibilities.Â
- Day-trips off campus (weekends, usually): Besides spending my Saturday’s in Worcester with my friends, we love to explore whenever we get the chance. Typically, we will escape to Boston for a mid-day brunch and shopping session… very essential!
- Exploring the Worcester area: One of the lessons I have learned over the past three years at Holy Cross is to make time to explore the area. Sometimes, the beautiful yet small walls of the campus may feel suffocating. Just remember there are beautiful places to see outside of Fenwick and Dinand!
