As the results of the presidential election are still pending, anxiety levels are through the roof. Here are a few easy ways to manage your election anxiety right now.

Meditate

Take some time for yourself and just focus on your breath. Meditiation is like a self-indulgent version of a time out. There are plenty of free meditations to be found online. Some of my favorites come from the Ten Percent Happier podcast and are available wherever you get your podcasts!

Go Outside

Take a walk around the block or just step outside your front door and take a deep breath. Sunshine and fresh air are incredibly soothing and hopeful.

Play Your Favorite Song

Whenever I feel down in the dumps, I like to have a quick solo dance party to feel a burst of serotinin. My song of choice is always “Shake it Off” by none other than T-Swizzle, but any upbeat jam will do. Put on your favorite song, turn it up to full volume, and lose yourself in glee for those three minutes.

Watch a Funny Video

My best friend and I frequently turn to a HILARIOUS scene from “30 Rock” when we need a laugh. Open up YouTube and find your favorite funny clip. SNL sketches, “you forgot the blueberries,” and Vine compliations will all make you smile.

As we wait for the votes to be counted, it is important to take care of ourselves and our mental health. Take some time today for yourself. Shut off the news and turn off your phone for a bit and allow yourself to breathe and smile.
