Whether you’re an avid reader, a summer-only reader, or a novice wanting to get into reading, Taylor Jenkins Reid’s books provide the perfect fiction getaway. Her four books The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Daisy Jones and the Six, Malibu Rising, and Carrie Soto is Back (respectively) are all intertwined in different ways. They take place in the lives of celebrities in Los Angeles in the 1960s-70s and all tell extremely different stories. Reid has three other books she wrote prior to these four (which I have also read and would recommend), but for the purposes of ranking, I will only be including the ones that all take place within the same time frame, or universe.
- Carrie Soto Is Back
In first place is Reid’s most recent book, the story of a tennis player coming out of retirement called Carrie Soto Is Back. At first, I thought this one just stood out to me because I’ve been playing tennis my whole life, but my roommate confirmed it was as great as I thought and has it first in her ranking too. I finished it in two days and could not put it down!
- Daisy Jones and the Six
Next up at a VERY close second is Daisy Jones and the Six, which follows a rock band on tour in the 70s. It is a rollercoaster of emotions and extreme tensions. This was my favorite book for a long time, and there is a show on Amazon Prime which came out in the spring.
- The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
In third place is the very first Taylor Jenkins Reid book I read, and probably her most popular one: The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. This tells the life story of a Hollywood it-girl in the 50s-70s, specifically revealing the mysterious tales of the 7 marriages throughout the course of her life. This is one of the books I read that got me back into reading, and it holds a very special place in my heart.
- Malibu Rising
Lastly is Malibu Rising. It pains me that I even have to put one of these in last place because I still love this book very much. It follows a family of four famous siblings, specifically an incident at one of their yearly iconic parties.
I would recommend all of these books to anyone, and hope you enjoy reading!
